Hi Guys and Gals,

I tried Googling but I can't find my engine layout :/

Still a learning newb...car has been idling rough sometimes so I'd like to clean my MAF sensor firstly but I don't know the exact location of it. I know how it looks like but I just don't want to undo/break something else in the process...part of the learning experience, huh.

Car in question is an A3 8P 2005 1.6 petrol (Hence the 8P section, duh lol)

Thanks for all your assistance!

Not sure exactly where it is on a 1.6 but they are usually fitted in the throttle body in the air ducting between the engine and the air filter. Should be right on top of the engine bay with a small loom plug.

Post a picture of you engine bay? Some models with smaller engines don't have a MAF at all, I know the 1.4 tfsi doesn't have one

Built into the engine cover along with your air filter.

Thanks for all your replies guys, much appreciate it.

I was thinking about taking a picture of the engine bay but I just didn't have the time. Took one now and I'm uploading it to imgur as I can't upload it through here for some God forsaken reason...I work in IT, I don't need these problems when I come home LMAO...

Engine cover and throttle body, got it guys. I'll undo the cover this weekend and see what I can find. I find it weird/interesting how every engine has such different layouts...pain in the butt though!

Here are the pics:

Sorry, they won't work as I wanted them to...the other pic won't appear.

Ah ok that isn't like the other 1.6 PQ35 where the filter is built into the engine cover, look under there anyway!

Please could someone remind me before I break something, how do you remove the cover? Where are the pull points? Lol thanks

Remove the dip stick as it won't come off without it out.

*** it hell doesn't look like your normal MAF...what am I missing, where is it. I feel so stupid asking these questions but everywhere I look, my engine ALWAYS has to be different...

I mean I think I found the throttle body at least...

whats your engine code and I will check the workshop information.

No MAF listed for that engine code, you do have a G42 Air Intake Temp sensor located on top of the manifold. (on your pic its the sensor top left).

Have you had the car on a diagnostic, preferably VCDS? Are all spark plugs good (when were they last changed?) along with the leads?

Hmmm, for each question you answer, Ive got two more...no MAF. That's a first :O

Well I had a major service last December so all spark plugs were changed, filters etc. Should I change the sensor do you reckon? The car seems to judder when it's raining/was raining most of the time but the specialist couldn't actually replicate the issue...

They got it under VCDS indeed and found a code for misfire. I'm attaching a pic of the scan.

Bit of a longshot here, but did you ever get sorted? I have the same issue. Misfire on cylinder 2 on the same car. I was looking for the MAF and apparently it doesent have one.
