Hi All,

A previous b7rs4 and now SQ5 plus owner here.

I am now looking for a track car/toy and have decided the above is my preference - I prefer the 6pot character than any 4 hence going this route instead of S3 before anyone suggests ;)

The car hunt - currently looking for a low millage dolphin grey 3 door facelift, seen the perfect spec one for sale albeit with 100k, what are peoples thoughts on this millage to then turbo - If regularly serviced do you think the engine/DSG are still good for it?

I have been looking at the 034 motorsport turbo kits (stage 2 with new head gasket) and will be getting some advice from Awsome GTI as this seems the cheapest turbo route - anyone have some experience or advice on turbo kits?

Thanks,

Steve

Take a look also at HPA Motorsports kits.

They are expensive, but probably amongst the best overall, and they have some expertise with the DSG as well.

Another would be...

http://www.hgp-turbo.de/audi-a3-32.html

You would likely need a DQ500 box to deal with the torque.

You could also give Storm Developments a call,as they have also done this sort of work on high power 3.2 engines.

Thanks S3Alex, I have looked at the HPA and as you say they seem expensive for what will be a track day car for me, I will take a look at HGP kits too - Should have mentioned I am in the UK but guess I can still order the kit etc as I am looking to fit myself anyway.

Any other UK 3.2 turbo owners on here?

I know...UK also here, and most of my gear has been US sourced.
If you think HPA are expensive, then please don't look at the HGP page....it will be shocking.

There will be a few guys here who've done this, and you might get some help in the 8L section, and also look on VAGOC,where a guy has a TT 3.2 with this sort of spec.
Look for Steve Colliers thread.

TRD stage 2 supercharger kit would be a good route to go down reliability and cost wise, around 6k all done and fitted and you keep the 3.2 character?

That should go very well indeed. If it's just going to be a track car surely any colour will do and should expand your search for a better low mileage car. If the engine needs to come out for all this work don't forget to change the cam chain and tensioners/guides. I can't see you just changing engine stuff, reckon you need to upgrade the suspension and brakes as well---while you're at it rip out all the aircon and superfluous trim, would be a great weightsaver.
Hope you'll stick up a build thread when you get started, I'll be reading it with interest.

Thanks, will take a look at VAGOC as ive not looked on that forum yet :)

I have only ever done turbo kits in the past, my last before the rs4 was a 350hp garret turbo astra gsi which went like a scalded cat.
Never really considered superchargers due to being unknown to me and I thought less power, however TRD stage 2 sounds and looks very interesting.

The plan is buy the car later this year, spend 6 months getting the handling/braking right (shocks/springs/rear ARB/larger disks etc) then do the conversion mid next year. Chain and ancillaries are on the list unless I find a really low millage car, probably leave the A/C for the road trips to Europe tracks - mainly the Nurburgring ;)

albeit a totally different engine, Awesome GTI weren't so awesome when mapping my friends 2.0tdi. In the end they took the map off and refunded him (after 2 blown turbos) and initially not accepting it was their map at fault.

Basically the route i have gone down/going down, I have pulled roughly 110kg out of the car now and with a custom decat exhaust and custom intake it is making about 270bhp without being mapped, it has certainly livened it up nicely!

Sounds good and a fair amount of weight loss, how have you lost 110kg?

Unfortunately I need all the seating and A/C (for occasionally ferrying kids) and have set my track car minimum power limit of 400bhp + :)

Ohh.

I think I fancy importing the 034 kit myself and getting it mapped by a specialist like maybe MRC.

Don't buy a kit based on price. You go cheap and you pay twice. Marcel at hpa works directly with vag for many years. They consult him specifically on dsg improvements. Their kit has exceptional quality and it is tuned correctly. Many run that kit for years without costly issues. Decked_S3 ran both an s/c and hpa. He sometimes reads here but you may want to contact him at vagoc

Excellent advice.

Cheers Guys, will do. Does the 034 kit not have a good rep then?

HPA would be my ideal preference based on rep and I will certainly enquire into a kit cost only first, however from my initial look it is double the price and in my head financially it does not make much sense putting a 10k kit on a 5k car. (at 15k all up I would be crazy not to consider an EVO X as a track car)

I do appreciate quality though as I always went best/most expensive in my Vauxhall tuning days ;)

As advised more investigation for me I think, I prefer the Audi sleeper/v6 noise option over an Evo x though - good project for me too.

I think the problem is that not many of us(or any that I can think of) use the 034 kit.

A lot however, have used HGP and HPA kits, with good results, and you want something that won't grenade itself easily under track conditions.

Your point about the Evo X is a very good one.....the 3.2 is a great engine, and has great potential, but getting to that, and making it reliable, costs a lot.
Steve Collier would be a good starting point,as May some of the 8L guys,as they have a lot of experience to offer.

Right guys so following further research I have narrowed my preference down to one the following stages :

HPA FT470
HGP Stage 2 - 445PS

Alternatively I've been looking at the HPA DTM kit that seems available in the UK as a starter point. Then add head spacer, shell bearings, 3" exhaust, intercooler/pipework & other required items myself - I am thinking this could be a cheaper route to 450+ hp in the long run?

Has anyone recently imported the FT470 and know the dreaded import costs etc?

If Steve C says it's good,then I'd trust him.
