2.0 Tfsi Pick Up Pipe Clarification....

I've decided to just carry on using my car until a problem arises, the oil leak has stopped and there doesn't seem to be am issue with the chemical metal repair, no warning lights or funny sounds either.
I have got the money stashed for the repair if and when it happens, as said I still want to out a good recon BUL back in it eventually.
Its still running great apart from a rear parking lamp change message on the dash. (no bulbs are blown).

Just to add the red low pressure beeped 3 times this morning then after it ran completely normal.
I have the money aside for a replacement engine (due to my other issues) but I think I will get the pick up changed first.
Just need to find a good place to do it. Audi near me quoted £669 which isn't happening.
:(

Booked in for Friday, oil pick up, o ring, sealant & filter, oil change etc £293.

Evening everyone, hope your well...

We've all seen an epidemic of TFSI oil pump failure/pick up pipe blockage etc. Unfortunately the end result is the same...

I've had a few tfsi's in, claiming to have the revised pick up pipe. now I have found BOTH vehicles have still got the original pick up pipe in, hence the failure.

So to clarify.... This is the pipe you should be having fitted (regardless! Do it yesterday!)
As it has 2 intakes to it. 1. With a gauze that catches all the crud etc. 2. I pressurised intake pipe that opens when the rest of the pipe become blocked, this still using the oil pressure but by passing the filter... End result, no oil starvation and a working engine.

I would also like to add that the general design of the longitudinal Quattro see's the sump slope off towards the back of the engine, leaving a deep side at the front and a very shallow sump at the back. Obviously the shallow side is where the pick up pipe is... Design flaw of the year award goes too.....
I believe this is the sole reason for blockage alone. Audi have also noticed this as the extra pipe points into the deeper side of the sump. Picking up cleaner oil in the event of a filter blockage.

So now that's cleared up, I hope you will all go invest in this item ASAP and have it fitted, before another TFSI goes down the swanny along with your wallet.

Hope this helps, here's the pics :)

Hiya do you know where I could buy this pick up pipe as my b7 is having these struggles like the rest of these damn tfsi's

Audi/ VW dealer, the part no's are (double check first)-
Oil Pick UP Tube 06F115251B
Oil pick up tube screw N10653601
Oil pick up tube o ring N0282222
They also do special sealant for the sump.

Good luck.

Ps my final price was £600 to do mine as the fly wheel on mine had no groove in it to undo the 2 back sump bolts so they had to drop the gearbox out also.

I've checked eBay and they don't seem to have anything :/

Hi mate, as you seem to really know your stuff can I lean on your experiences.

Just bought an a4 2.0 tfsi Quattro 2005, bgb engine, car has been fine, has a good service history, not main agent. Out of know where the oil pressure light came on while I was happy cruising with the music up, I didn't see how long it was on for but could hear a tapping noise, reasonably loud, so stoped as soon as I noticed it, no smoke out the back either. I left it for a few mins the started it up, it sounded ok for a few seconds the started to tap. I've left the car as I've got someone coming to look at it, but tonight I thought I would try again, it started first time sounded spot on, I reved it ever so gently and even heard the turbo, so I left it running then after about 20 seconds or so I could hear the tapping noise start again, so I switched it off, does this sound like a week pump or blocked pick up!

Many thanks

Sounds pick up pipe related mate. Try not to run it at all until its replaced. The tapping is the top end running dry of oil. The longer its tapping the more damage it will do. The design of the sump is the main issue. Also check the pump while your in there, but the soubd changing sounds more like pick up pipe in all honesty.

That makes perfect hence after my incident yesterday.
The top of the engine was noisier and after checking the oil yesterday after my pressure warning flashed up it was only at 50%.
I topped the oil up and drove home without incident. (I had the pick up done about a year ago.)
:)

Ive got one with 30k on it if you get stuck, but the best conversion is the 1.8t oil pump, will cost you in the region of £500

You my friend are a wealth of knowledge and i really appreciate your advice in steering me through this ball ache. Ok update, im going to pull the oil sensor out tomoz and screw in a gauge first just to check exactly what pressure the pump is giving. "If" i need to replace the pump is it just a pump form any 1.8t or does it have to be something like a b6 quattro, and what modification, if any do i need to do to it or will it bolt straight on my engine?!

Many thanks

Hi Mate, update. Not good, screwed in a pressure gauge tonight and the reading was 15 at best, and cant completly rule out the fact that i think i can hear a ever so tiny ticking noise from the turbo :( going to drop the sump off by the weekend hopefully and check the pick up pipe, on the slim chance it could be so blocked, but i doubt it, is it poss you could msg me some contact details for you craig, as i wanted to have a chat about these oil pumps.

Many thanks

Hi mate, did you manage to have a look at the link I posted, if so what's your thoughts, also how much do you want for the one you have?

Yes mate it is, although with import tax and duty you may end up spending the same amount as buying in the uk. If you buy in the uk make sure you tell the supplier its an A4 as the pick up pipe is different but everything else is the same

i bought the pickup pipe 06F115251B and it does not fit into my car... it is too big
i guess my car does not have the same issue related to fuel pump failure ... as the engine bay is a different size ?

my car currently has
OEM PN 06F115251A
This fits to: Audi A3 8P 2.0T, Audi TT Mk2 2.0T, Volkswagen EOS 2.0T, Volkswagen GTI Mk5 2.0T, Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 2.0T, Volkswagen Passat B6 2.0T

06F115251B does not fit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who ever said it would fit your A3 ?

Your vehicle has a transverse mounted engine layout, the A4 2.0 Tfsi is longitudinal. The sump arrangements are different, in the A4 2.0 Tfsi the sump has a different design to clear the crossmember - this sump design is ONE of the contributary factors for the pick up / strainer blockage issues that affect the A4 2.0Tfsi. Also, the issue relates to the oil pump, pickup strainer. drive chain & balancer shaft arrangement, not the fuel pump. Hope this clarifies things for you.

so i guess i will have none of those issues (oil pump, pickup strainer. drive chain & balancer shaft arrangement).
the mechanic cleaned my old pickup pipe and put everything back on. yay for another few years at least ! :)

Don't forget that the transverse engines have a full depth sump with the full width of it getting a nice blast of cooling air over it. Why didn't Audi fit a real oil cooler to them.Does the B7 have the cutout on the back of the flywheel for sump removal same as the B6? Disappointing to see the use of nylon tensioner pads still, they either wear or break or both.
Oil changes are neither expensive or difficult to do, it's child's play.
Understandably most of the oil pressure related problems will be inherited from the previous owner who thinks they're doing the right thing by following the variable servicing to the letter

It might be a sensor. Get a scan on your car if you can. It will tell you if its either. Thermostat from audi is 30-35. Labour about an hours work give or take.

Hi. I know this is an old thread but could someone confirm what module should be scanned to identify this please?

My stat dial doesn't always sit bang on 90....

if ur temp gauge shows below 90 thne buy temperature sensor and if this does not fix it then buy new thermostat. No module shows if the sensor is NOK

Thanks.

But previous post above suggested scan via VCDS would highlight issue?

Thanks.

sure it shows if its not working at all... but if it is working erronated then there is ur problem

Hello, i just for this issue with my Audi s3 8p. Very late we can say, 197k km. First signal of issue was the warning orange "low oil level" despite this was fine. Wrong alert which did not happen again. 500 km later the big red light"low oil pressure" came. I changed the pressure sensor but the same alert came back. I requested To change this pick up pipe and clean the oil pan and the issue is cleared now. Hopefully no damage on the engine. All s3 8p owner should prevent this issue !
