Facelift THE NEW AUDI A3 (2016 FACELIFT) – STILL AHEAD OF THE CURVE

The Ireland configurator also has a greater selection of alloys to choose from.

Anybody know if you choose the comfort & sound package (currently brochure only), can you still spec parking system plus? Would the additional cost just be £700 - 425 (rear parking part)??

They only charged me an extra £300 for the Parking system plus after adding Comfort and sound package.

Thanks for that. Good to know.

Been waiting on the salesman to get back to me on organising a test drive. Hopefully some day next week.

Do the car dealers in Ireland have the FL A3?
I was told (Audi Limerick)they would not have any in the showroom until September ?

Sorry, I was just being nosey on the Irish Configurator, I'm from up North and been in with Belfast Audi - the last time I was in they let me look at ones they had out in their back area, which they were prepping to be put on their show room floor and for test drives - that was about a week ago. Salesman emailed me on Tuesday there to say test drive available within 'next few days'...

Not FL A3 till August i am told in Ireland, no 184TDI available on configurator either. Yes a nice selection of alloys available but at an extra cost to the standard which wasn't the case on the old model?

Nasty in what way? When I saw it was grey on the configurator instead of black it did stand out so I decided to play it safe with Daytona grey as it would blend in more. Can always get it wrapped black if it isn't nice.

Also, still can't believe there aren't any photos of the FL S3 Sportback...

The back part where the 4 exhausts are (I wish it was two oval exhausts!), looks like fly eyes and a wide mouth in the middle. Even the 8V back on this area looks weird too but this is not an improvement.

Found an A3 Cabriolet in Cosmos Blue in Cardiff Audi, S Line with Light Design pack so it does have the LED strip on the doors, couldn't find an A3 without that pack so couldn't verify if it's standard or not. The blue is lovely, dark but if the weather is right I bet it would look fantastic.

Thanks for the pictures JordanT92! It's definitely darker than the photo I posted just before yours, I'd imagine this is one of those paint schemes that you have to see in person to really appreciate.

I must admit I've been a member of this forum for over 13 years and I've never known such much discussion on a single colour - Blue. When I purchased my current A3 back in 2014 there were only two colour being considered Black or White. When I visited the Ingolstadt plant the year before almost every A3/S3 on the line was either Black or White. A3 Saloons are not built in Germany so I cannot comment on them.

It's a sign of what's popular. I would say the most popular colours across all manufacturers are blue or grey based on the number you see on the road:

Audi Sepang Blue
BMW Estoril Blue
VW Lapiz Blue
Ford Spirit Blue

Definitely an in person colour, it was on my short list but lost out due to not knowing what it really looked like. Seeing it today though, really is a beautiful colour. Lots of metallic flecks, you can see it change to an aquamarine colour under strong light.

Also had a play around with the new MMI, Google Earth is an awesome addition, and the quality and usability was incredible. Connected my S7 Edge and went straight into Android Auto for a play around. Home screen showed a few cards, lots of unread messages from the other half, all of which are still unread, navigation cards to frequently visited places and weather cues. Nice to see Google Maps in its familiar format and the navigation worked really well, toss up between that and Google Earth.. not sure which I'd use more frequently. Music app works great, Spotify come right up and played from where I left off, really easy controls too. Gave the phone app a go but wasn't connected to Bluetooth so skipped it, and didn't have any other apps installed so I disconnected and took some nice photos of the car instead!

Interesting point... Google Earth (Audi maps) for navigation, or just use phone through the Smartphone interface...?

Most TT/TTS with 19" alloys come with them as well, one good reason to jump to 20"s on a TTS at least you get Bridgestone or pirelli,Hankook/South Korean are horrible looking tyres and don't belong on a German built car full stop and yeah it is a cost cutting measure.

I wouldn't consider myself lucky if I got Bridgestones, they're absolutely *****, on a 2WD Golf/A3 with decent output (>150ps) and Bridgestones you'll get lots of tramping. My recent roster of VAG cars bought new:-

2005 MK5 Golf 140TDI PD - Dunlops on 16" wheels - no tramping.

2007 MK5 Golf 170TDI PD - Bridgestone S001 on 17" wheels, hopped like a Kangaroo with anything more than 50% throttle in dry from a standstill, or 30% in the wet. Changed to Michelin PS3s and not a bit of tramping.

2009 Scirocco 140TDI CR - Dunlop SP01 on 18" wheels - no tramping.

2011 Scirocco 170TDI CR - Pirelli P7 on 18" wheels - no tramping.

2013 MK7 Golf GTD - Bridgestone S001 on 18" wheels hopped like a Kangaroo with anything more than 50% throttle in dry from a standstill, or 30% in the wet. Tramping totally ruined that car, with that in mind rather than replace the tyres, I had an itch for a Golf R, thinking that things would be so much better with a Haldex based 4WD. VW advertised the MK7 GTD and GTI in the early days as having an "anti-tramp device" - mine didn't work, whatever the device was.

2015 MK7 Golf R - Bridgestone RE050 on 19" wheels. The haldex took care of the tramping, but grip was still poor when you pushed the car when moving. 6k miles in, when the car started to slide when crawling around a large roundabout at 20mph in December with 11C ambient temp after a RWD BMW 120 took it much quicker without issue, I decided enough was enough and spent £600 of my hard earned money to get Michelin Pilot Super Sports which have transformed the car - it is unflappable in all conditions. It just ****** me off that I buy VW's hottest hatch ever and they put ***** tyres on it - causing me to have to spend again to replace tyres simply not fit for purpose. No way in the world VW fitted those tyres when conducting performance and economy figures.

Bridgestones will last forever because they're rock hard, but they are absolute crap - Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear, Continental and Michelin beat Bridgestones by quite a margin. My wife's Audi A1 1.6TDI 116ps came with Hankooks - if I push it hard I can get the tyres to chirp slightly off the line.

If I do get an S3 next time, i'd be tempted to have the tyres replaced on day 1 if they were Bridgestones.

Colour is such an immotive subject. Within the A3 range some colours, IMO, are better suited to the lines of the car. I also think that Audi should contact owners to get their opinion of colours to try as I think the range is quite staid. For instance, I would like to see a BMW Mini coloured cream on the A3 SB with black trim. Anyone got any other colours they would like to see?

I've asked my audi dealer to confirm the make of tyres that will come with my new A3 SB. Not too much to ask is it?

You might not get any luck there - they probably won't know until the car has been built and turns up at the dealership. Pre-empting my GTD issues manifesting themselves on the R when ordering, I asked VW UK to put a flag on my car build not to fit Bridgestones, citing my previous issues. I knew that at the time they were using Conti 5, Bridgestone RE050 and Dunlop SP01 on Golf GTD/GTI/R with optional 19" wheels, so hoped they would fit either of the other 2. They would not/could not specify tyre choice at factory. Looking on the German forums it seemed that VW never put Bridgestones on a performance Golf intended for their domestic market.

My wife has a Pepper White (Cream) New Mini. Very easy colour to keep clean. Doesn't show up anything really.
Whites have now been going strong for 6-7 years. Blues are definitely making a strong comeback, though.

I can confirm mine was showing electric seat with memory on my Audi but when I went to view the car on Monday there was no electric seat....
p.s picking mine up in the morning from Wakefield Audi
A3 S Line Saloon in nano grey with extras including heated seats ( but not electric seats) lol
Sorry I can't confirm as it was

sorry cryptic but it was Monday in brilliant sunshine when I saw car for the first time and forgot to check half of the stuff I wanted to. Picking it up Saturday so will get back to you mste

I would be surprised if this is include with the interior light package, as its an easy £200 for Audi & the name "light design inlays" puts this in the right ball park. I would be very happy to be proven wrong, would love this to be included, just cant see it happening... I also read somewhere that only the front door sills would light up? seems a shame for us 5 door folk :worried:
picked the car up today..heres the pics
Thanks moonlight... Was unsure about the colour before seeing it but looks really good in the flesh

the car hadnt been done with the autoglym protection that i thought i was getting but wasn't an issue as i'd heard bad things about it. anyway car looked great but when i got home it had loads of little marks where the glue from the protection had been. I've spent a few hours giving it a resin polish and then applying a coat of wax...mrs thinks i'm potty...says a £30 grand car and you polishing it on its first day. They just don't understand do they? Anyway hope you all like the pics if you want any others doing or any questions let me know but i haven't had time to have a play with the MMI and sat nav properly yet. i gotta say the interior changes are very subtle but do improve the feel over the pre fl. i think Audi have just left alone mainly but improved where they could....gota say i like

Had an A1 Sport in Amalfi... a nice warm white. Starting to get the feeling that white is a bit out of fashion now.

I've a feeling white is going out of fashion now everyone is charging at least £200 for it. 5 years ago you had a choice of at least 3 non-metallic colours at no cost, now it seems you only have the choice of one non-metallic colour, and if you consider it an ok colour but it is only a few hundred quid more to get the colour they really want, they'll pay it over the white. Saw it a few years ago on the Golf - Tornado Red became popular as a no-cost colour (especially among the leasers), so VW started charging £260 for it. Metallic/pearl paint is the biggest con going, considering the costs involved - add a little bit of powdered aluminium or mica and charge upwards of £500. The extra cost of metallic paint used to be semi-justifiable when solid colours truly were solid, but now all non-metallic paints come with a clear layer just like metallics always have, there really should be nothing in it. People (including myself) will pay the metallic premium to get the colour they want but I don't think anyone here could say that £550 is good value for money.

The Audi palette is pretty drab (and so is VW's in the main) - lots of greyscale colours, a couple of blues (Sepang no longer available - great colour, Scuba blue is drab, undecided on the others), metallic blacks can look great for 5 mins after washing them. There aren't many stand-out colours.

There are those odd colours that photograph well in certain light, but look crap 90% of the time - anyone seen Limestone Grey on a golf? Looks great 10% of the time when it looks like a Mercury Grey, but most of the time it looks like the metallic version of that "greige" colour of old hearing aids. I've a feeling that the new Audi Blues like Navarra might be a bit like that, great in the sunlight and completely drab otherwise. If I were getting an Audi right now, i'd probably have to go with Daytona (but only because Sepang is now gone).

This is all my opinion on colour preferences, everyone has their own opinion, but I don't think my choices are very contrary. Do Audi's suit loud colours generally? They're very understated in the main.

Great pics gripross! Interesting that everything is white, including the window switches on the doors. Are the MMI buttons white too? The TT is a mix of red and white, but the window switches are definitely red on the TT including the lock/unlock button. I like that a lot. Lovely car all round. :)

Been told Daytona is the most popular by a number of dealers. Always loved a black car, but haven't once regretted getting Sepang on my S5. As for whites, my dealer is actually crunching some numbers for a Glacier white A3 he has in stock, so might be my first venture into white (although its mostly for the GF...).

All I will say about solid colours, is that solid black paint is a complete nightmare. Solid white is fine, wouldn't personally pay over the odds for metallic white over solid if I was speccing, but solid black is different story.

Black is a full time job in either guise though so....
