Hi,

I currently have an Audi A3 Saloon. Is it worth part exchanging it in for an new Audi A4 on finance or is there not any significant difference between them?

Regards,

Well I've had the a3 8v for a year when I p/x it for a a4 3 months ago. In my opinion the a4 is a big step up ahead than the a3, in terms of refinement, wind noise and ride quality. Interior is a step up but the a3s interior was good imo in terms of layout and look just not as good as the a4. The car drives brilliantly. The extended interior LEDs are a must!! For me it was a choice between another a3/s3 or a4 and the a4 was more value for money at the time I got 17% discount.

Have to agree, the A4 is much more modern but the screen is not as nice. Much bigger as well. Best going to have a test drive. If you need the space, I would change, if not, the A3 saloon is a lovely car.

The only reason I bought my A3 is down to the fact it's a smaller car. It's an absolute 'mare' to park where I work..
So like Scottk has said If space is an issue ie lack of then I would go for the A4. Having said that the A3 saloon you have now gives the best of both....
ps If I was considering an A4 it would have to be quattro and petrol....

As the guys above are saying - it's down to requirements, fundamentally. If you need more space, A4 is the way to go, if you like the practicality of a smaller car, A3 again.

If you're not bothered about the size difference, then it comes down to a test drive! :friends:

Gotta admit though, the deals on the A4 are very enticing...

I would so for the A4 personally, it is far better value for money and, having looked at the dimensions carefully, it isn't much larger than my A3 saloon as my driveway is quite tight, but I have never had an issue parking an A4 on it.
The A4 is also a much better refined drive as well...

So your considering another A3 Saloon? A3 is far better looking but l couldn't do a facelift car S3 it's not different enough so yeah A4 it's got to be

I love my A3. I'd like a bigger car for the ride quality (getting on a bit now!) but I'm also a townie and constantly using city centre car parks. Whilst the newer ones cater for the increasing size of cars, there are still plenty with ungenerous spaces that leave the car open to minor dings and scrapes. I'd worry myself silly about leaving an A4 in the older style car parks, so the A3 is a good compromise for me size-wise as well as all the other aspects of it that I like.

It's a tough one, as others have said the A4 is a lot of car for the money and comes with a lot as standard....I did think about the A4 next as I keep finding myself needing a bit more boot space, but then thought it doesn't look sporty! Then I saw the A5 coupe, more space but still enough sportiness goodness :)

Yes but maybe you are comparing the sportback with the a4 and why would someone who prefers a hatchback then want a saloon? Thus I guess the a4 would be too large, however amongst all the cars in that range it is smaller than a mondeo or a passat.

For me the A4 is just too big, but if you need the space...? I personally like smaller cars and don't need a lot of space. The A4 has a sort of "middle management" image in my opinion, although a lovely modern car on the inside. :)

I should have been clearer, sorry. If I went for an A4 it would be the Avant. My car has to carry stuff from time to time and for me an estate car is a good compromise between load carrying and comfort. The A4 Avant is probably a fair bit bigger than the A3 sportback, which, as explained above, would make it too big for most of the car parks I use.

Similar price to an a3...

I configured an A4 Avant yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how favourably it compares with an A3 Sportback. And that was before any discount.

When I got my A3 built, the A4 was still the ancient B8 and would have been a backwards choice to have made in 2014.

There's still nothing special about the A4 IMO, nor the A3 facelift over here in America since all the cars main extra tech features won't be included.

I hope I have got the spec about similar and I've added the audi sound system as the a4 comes with it as standard and if you remove the £400 cost of the heated screen from the A4 there is about 500 quid in it. But the A4 has some extra's the A3 will not have such as accoustic front drivers and passengers windows and the interior/exterior lighting...

Too big for me. I had the new A4 as a courtesy car. Was a diesel S Line. Very nice, but prefer mine. Drive wise it bored me to tears, however as I have an S3 guess it's not a fair comparison on that front.

One thing I'm not too keen on with the A4 is the air vent that runs right across the dash. First time I saw it, I instantly thought VW Passat!

The vent is described by audi as "ambient air," keeping the interior at the right temperature without the fans blasting you. I guess there are similarities to a passat but I would have thought not really a deal breaker. If you look under the bonnet of any vag vehicle you will see the same parts and engines anyway...

The A4 interior bar the air vents is gorgeous but I think externally the A3 saloon is better. The A4 rear looks off to me, can't warm to it, actually prefer the look of the A4 Avant rear oddly...
I think they spent their time designing the new A5 exterior - a thing of beauty!

Agreed tbh, the back of the new A4 looks out dated and horrid to me already. Funny how the interior is the complete opposite.

Reading some reviews it seems the inside of an A4 is the place to be. I saw a few in car parks recently, they just look too big to me. Can't wait to see the new A5.

Looking through the configurator for the A4 - there is HUD! How cool is that!

I can only agree, the A3 saloon rear is far better proportioned, but then the boot is smaller. I guess Audi, being traditionalists, didn't want to stray too far from the B8 design. At least whilst sitting inside you can't see the rear...

Having almost decided to go down the F/L S3 saloon route for my next car, I started pricing up an A4 Avant S-Line 272 3.0 diesel and they are coming out at very similar prices on PCP.

We currently run an A6 Allroad 245, so I'm already a fan of the V6 diesel, so it's going to be a difficult choice.

Is that a serious contest with 600Nm of torque on the A4 against 400Nm on the S3?

They are different cars with different characters.

I was a bit surprised that the A4 gets bigger discounts and cheaper finance than the S3.

If my usage requirements were more motorway based then there would probably be no issue - A4 hands down. But in truth I use the car on a variety of roads and sometimes don't use if for a day or two, so the S3 could be more entertaining. The A/S3 saloons also look better than the A4 saloon, so if I went A4 it would have to be the estate.

I wonder what kind of answers/votes this would get if it was in the A4 B9 thread?
