Ok guys, after much debate and much internet searching i have decided to go and buy a Pioneer AVH-X55800DAB.

What i can't understand is why people are still buying RNS-E Units. I find the buttonless look so much better, and the RNS-E units are out dated. Well for my 8p anyway!

Why not buy a nice after market unit that will look great if not better in your car that is up to date with android and iso support, bluetooth, dab and can even plug in a reversing camera etc, and its all fully functional with the car!

The one i have just bought does not specifically have NAV, but the reason for that is that i will never use it. If i did i would have still gone for an after market unit that looks the part and does have NAV. So can someone tell me why it is that people are still buying RNS-E units?

£400 - £500 for a second hand RNS-E unit that will more than likely need a £100 DVD to upgrade the NAV just does not seem to me like a good deal so whats the catch?

People love the OEM look. Personally I went for an aftermarket unit from Clarion with nav and love it. Then again I'm pretty sure I would have loved any upgrade from my symphony with a cassette player :yahoo:

But they dont look great compared to some of the after market ones. In my opinion anyway. And you get so much less for your money.

Well you lose the DIS, usually lose the MFSW if you have one, sometimes don't integrate into the sound system too well unless your lucky. Usually require additional wiring for power, lighting etc unless they have can bus converters.

I know the RNS-E is dated, but it just works.

I think the only negative thing i can think of is losing the information on what song your playing on the screen behind the dashboard. Ive heard everything else works if you buy the fitting kit like steering controls etc. But what song your playing shows on the stereo itself anyway.

If you read a lot of the posts on here when people have fitted after market systems and the problems they have encountered. I agree nowadays you can get the MFSW wheel to work to a degree and the lighting etc with the correct can bus kit.

I can't speak for every stereo, but I know a lot of them do not show the media when navigation is in use, one of the reasons why the DIS is used.

All fitted, everything works a treat!
