hi I have been quoted £230 for an oil change on an audi 8v. i am based in yorkshire and most audi are owvned under same umbrella (sytner ltd)

so i assume they will all quote me the same.

I have seen some prices here for £180 with oil and £105 without oil . can someone advse where this was done?

also I have read the oil is best to buy ones self as audi put a huge markup on.

which oil should I purchase ?

Where you save money on oil is that Audi Service charge by the litre, whereas of course outside of Audi service you can buy 4 litres much more cheaply than 4 separate litres - so there is your saving (plus of course the markup Audi service add as well - it all adds up).

Oil wise, you are looking at either Shell Helix Ultra ECT 5W-30, Castrol Edge LL 5w-30 or Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 0W-30. All meet the VAG standard of 504.00/507.00

I use Shell Helix Ultra as I got a spare litre when I bought my S3 new, and its what the local dealership use. Have read good reviews of the Castrol Edge as well, so may give that a go next time

Use Castrol Edge myself, Audi quoted me £182 for an oil change and pollen filter only :scared2:. Asked them how much without the pollen filter and was quoted £152.
Local garage did the service (genuine oil/pollen filter and oil) for £90 :wtf:.

That was a good price! Be aware though that Audi will often price match which is a win win as far as I am concerned as keeps the price down AND gets an Audi dealer stamp

hawkeyes do they only price match within audi service centres or with any garage?

i understand i can do the change at a local garage as its not very technical however i am paying the premium to get the stamp.

what makes matters worse i rang one branch regarding a price if i provided my own oil their reply was they will not do it that way and they only do it if they use their own oil as they are not allowed to ?

any advice guys ?

Mine price matched with a local BMW/Audi private garage (which is owned and run by ex BMW/Audi mechanics).

I have never yet been refused a dealership doing an oil change with me providing the oil. The only stipulation they have made is that the oil provided must meet the recommended specification, else they will not change it (which is fair enough). I was once told also that the cans supplied had to be unopened as well (but that wasn't with Audi). I therefore supply the same oil as they use at the dealership (Shell Helix), so there is no question.

All this "we are not allowed to" stuff is so they can charge you the marked up price for their oil (as what they do is charge you the price per litre then some) in my opinion.

Even with dealers, I have had them "adjust" their price to reflect the price I would pay externally on some ocassions. Never hurts to ask that question either.

I emailed a for Audi for a price for first service

Our oil and filter change is priced at £90+VAT. We also have all of the
diagnostic equipment necessary to log your service on the Audi online
service schedule, meaning that your warranty is maintained.
Regards,
Daniel

Sounds like a good price. Should I take this or try get my local Audi to price match? Doubt they will go that low

No harm in having a word with your local dealership given you have it writing to see if they would match it. After all, so long as genuine parts and the suchlike are used, you (supposedly) have freedom of choice of where you get the work done, and if they can do it such that your warranty is maintained - why pay more?
I'd just check though that independent garage's can obtain and utilise the Audi Online service schedule for peace of mind first - maybe a call to Audi customer service?

Spoke to Audi guy never seemed interested on the phone, he just told me A for Audi use the genuine parts and there fine to use. I asked what price he can do it for and he said £240. Don't know how one can charge £90+vat and another £240, terrible
