Hey guys,

If anyone could clear some of this up for me and help me out to finish this project, I'd much appreciate it. :)

So, I recently bought an A3 2005 1.9TDI (8P), and it came with the original Audi Concert II stereo, that doesn't have handsfree or bluetooth which I instantly missed a lot from my A4 where I had an up-to-date Pioneer system.

But I wanted to keep the car looking original so, I went and bought a Dension Gateway Pro BT, without reading the small text that it requires a multi-function steering wheel to operate it and set it up (I believe?) and has it's display on the top of the DIS, which I didn't realise until after fitting it (noob).

My steering wheel looks like this (Not a MFSW)....

I then decided to go and buy a MFSW and reading on-line it seems I'll need a compatible controller for it as well. Here's the new steering wheel that I managed to get with the MF. I was told that the airbag would be a straight swap? (Haven't fitted it yet).

I wanted to know which controller I had in the car so I ran VCDS on the car and it seems I have the 1K0953549A Steering wheel (16) controller, which I believe is a midline from a golf series and not up to the job for the MFSW.

I think I'll be needing to buy a 8P0953549K (Highline for 8P), If I'm right? That looks like this....

And that I'd need to code the new controller in VCDS so it recognises it?

Also, I'm wondering, if I've got everything so far correct or near enough, wouldn't there be extra wiring involved to operate the radio and dension/mobile phone, from the steering wheel?

I took out the back of the radio and examined the wiring and it doesn't seem to be a wire to the remote connection on the radio (which I believe is connection 11 on the top black connector) from the original car's wiring. It missing some other's as well.

Or, (I might be dreaming here) that there's no additional wiring required and everything will operate through the CAN wiring?

Here's some pictures of the back of my radio...
The dension plugs into this top black connector and then has its own red connector that goes into the back of the radio instead. This black connector from the car is the plug I feel is missing wires, the dension has a wire into all of the connections and functions as the CDC (CD changer).

This wiring diagram is of a Audi Chorus II head unit but I believe it's the same, or almost the same as the Concert II?

Thanks guys, any tips or help would be great at this stage before I take this further! :)

8p0953949F for your year K is for facelift. You also need the D revision slipring which you may have but have to take steering wheel off to find out.
You need a different airbag cable to make the mfsw part work but you got most of it correct.

That set looks like all you'll need, as long as the steering control module is highline (didn't do a translate on that ebay page) Once it's all installed you'll be needing a double din cage and head unit :friendly wink::friendly wink:

Thanks Chris!

I'll take the steering wheel off tonight and see which slip-ring I have on the car, but I'm guessing that'll need upgrading too.

Been looking at sets on ebay, would something like this do the job?...

So, after installing this, there isn't any additional wiring required?
Some cars already have it, I had a midline and had the D slipring.
All you need total is d revision slipring F revision module and the different airbag loom.
Might aswell put cruise control on at the same time otherwise you have to undo all of this!

Tonight, I took the steering wheel off and it seems I have a midline slip-ring as well (1K0959653A), so I'll just order the set and change both the controller module and the slip-ring. I'm thinking of doing the cruise control later on.

Whilst I had the wheel off I noticed the airbag attachment and took a good look at it. What is it that needs changing with it exactly?

I changed my wheel not long back to mfsw from a standard one, the airbag connector you need is part number 8p0971589ad, that's the newest part number as I got that new from Audi about £40 I didn't need a different slip ring for mine though just the high line module that ends with F.
As someone else has said though while you're doing this you might aswell do cruise control at the same time as that's what I did, I carefully cut out a bigger hole in the plastic trim under the steering wheel for the cruise control stalk to fit in to and then bought a 2nd hand cruise control stalk off eBay for about £50 and then with all the parts I had got someone fitted the new wheel and cruise control for me at the same time. If you don't do it at the same time then when you do get round to doing it the steering wheel has to come off again and the coding will need changing again.

Totally agree with cutting the bottom cowel, I bought a new one when I did my cruise control but once I saw it's even marked on the inside, a careful cut and then I used a hole saw in my drill to get the bottom rounded. Totally perfect so I returned the new one which made the job even cheaper.

Exactly what I did, I heard they have the markings on the inside but mine didn't have so I had to do some careful measuring first but it looks spot on now it's on and a lot cheaper

Thanks guys,

I've decided to just do the cruise control at the same time after reading your comments, and I've gone ahead and ordered all the parts, so I'll let you know how I get on afterwards!

Ok, so it's been a few weeks, all the parts have came and I fitted everything, ended up having to buy an airbag as the one from the non-mfsw doesn't fit the mfsw, so that cost me a few extra weeks, and I wreaked the under-cowling so ordered a new one of these too, just to finish the job looking nice. Had some trouble with the steering alignment and had to use vcds to re-align but wasn't too difficult. The cruise control actually required 2 different re-codes in vcds, (engine and steering modules), but got that up and running. The Dension Bluetooth is fully set-up and running and the mfsw is all working too. All-in-all, not such a hard job, and worth it if you really want/need any of these features.

I do still have one problem, and that is that the full-beam (long lights) stalk is not the same as the original that clicked and stayed forward to turn on, now it is a flick stalk (which isn't designed to stay forward), so I need to re-code this is vcds I'm told, but cant find the codes to do this online anywhere, so if anyone knows if or how this is possible, that would really help? I'm guessing this indicator and high-beam stalk originally came from a different model of Audi.

Here's some pictures of how it turned out! I'm pretty pleased with it....
Thanks to all the guys on here that helped me to get this done and if anyone has questions on how I got his far, just ask me, and I'll try to explain.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I had a similar problem when I did my cruise control. I ordered the parts from TPS and once I had it all back together and coded I noticed the same thing. The problem is that sometime in '09 they changed the part number I I had been given a stalk for a '10 car. So after ordering the right part and taking it all apart again to get it all working correctly. This is not a code able problem so to cure your problem you'll need to source a cc stalk for pre '09.

Yeah same from me mate you've got the wrong stalk, there's 2 different ones and sounds like you've got the wrong one
