As the title suggests.......
I currently have a full Miltek system for my FWD A3 1.8T.

What I would like is a 3" cat-back system to match up to my Miltek 3" down pipe.

Does anyone know of any pre made systems or would this be a custom job??
Cheers.

Don't see why you would need a 3" unless you are running big power, needing the extra flow.

I am no expert (clearly) but I thought the standard s3 exhaust (CATBACK) was good for 300BHP

Doesn't fit a fwd A3, but yes a standard S3 exhaust flows pretty well.

Found std S3 backbox restrictive on a hybrid stroker build... hit a wall at 300hp.... milltek backbox is getting restrictive on stuff over 350hp...

Decent 3" systems are expensive to make... 3" is trickier to mandrel bend to smaller tube and is not as in demand which is why most after market systems are 2.5" or like milltek 2.75"

This is a system Bill recently put together for a customer build (Polo AWD)... couldn't tell you a price on this but wasn't cheap

On a lighter note... pretty sure @Prawn bought a cheap 3" system for his A3 on eBay and rates it..

<tuffty/>

@VAG-Slag I've also had it in my watch list for a good while now and was disappointed to see them no longer relisted. I dropped the seller an email to see what the score was and he told me he no longer stocked them, yet they popped back up again shortly after. Whatever the reason for his confusion, I'm going to be ordering one in the next couple of days for the LCR.

Cheap exhaust, extortionate postage. $300 shipping alone on the first and last you linked to! The one we were previously keeping an eye on totals £240 including postage which is unbelievably good though - I won't feel quite so bad about having to modify it to suit having paid such a painfully reasonable amount.

Jeeez, yea I hadn't noticed those delivery prices!...

I quite like the look of these I wonder how noisy the 76mm one would be I notice this only uses two silencers I think tufty and others run 3 silencers on a 76mm system

Well Prawns always passes track noise regs, so can't be that bad... Also you cannot base how loud something is purely on how many silencers. My A3 only has one silencer, yet it is considerably quieter than most other performance exhaust I've heard.

It's just that I'm coming from a resonated milltek which is very quiet, i don't want to buy one of these if there really loud as I do quite a few motorway miles, I might take a trip to pipewerx as there only round the corner from me

Prawns car is relatively loud to be fair... You certainly know he's coming anyway! :tearsofjoy:

When I saw the thread Title I did hope someone would have mentioned the ebay special :)

Search 'golf 3" turbo back" on ebay.com, not .co.uk, and you'll soon see they're all the same exhaust from different sellers. They are still 100% available, and the cheapest one is still £240 posted to the UK. You really can't go wrong at that money, it's madness.

The slip joints are a little loose as supplied. I solved this by using a mikalor clamp and an impact gun once on each joint to wind them in, then swapped back to a U-bolt clamp when the joints were tighter.

At the rear axle joint you absolutely HAVE to use a mikalor clamp as there isn't room for a U-bolt.

Mine's been in for 4 years, and I think it's brilliant.

I had one issue last year where a hanger ripped away from the system, easily sorted with the welder in 5 minutes, and one issue with the insides of the centre box falling apart, although to be fair my car gets some SERIOUS abuse, and the exhaust has to put up with a LOT of pops and bangs and hard cut rev limiter action banging the **** out of it, so I'm not surprised.

When brand new, it used to register 89-90db at 4500rpm on trackday noise tests. After 3-4 years this rose to 91-92db as the wadding depleted. Now with the centre box emptied it records 93-94db at the same 4500rpm, so really not crazy loud still.

These might give you some idea how it sounds:

If / when mine eventually dies, I'll be buying another one straight away.

Nice one Nick, thanks for getting involved.
I strangely didn't think to look for a mk4 system! I only want the cat back part of the system but at that price I wont cry about that, lol.

Do you think it will fit to my Miltek down pipe?

If it's 3" and the miltek dp is 3" then it should fit no problem, may require a little bit of modification if one of the pipes is slightly too long etc but can't see it being a massive issue, and even if you have to pay someone else to do the modification it will be miles cheaper than any brand name exhausts off the shelf.

I ran 2 silencers on my 3" system, was loud, but not deafening, i could still hear the stereo when driving around.

For £240 you get a Turbo back system including the 3'' DP / Decat.

I sold the DP/Decat for £70 so the system owes me just £170 :)

I accidentally some shiny tubes...

Let the Chav cannon kick it.

Ordered Tuesday, arrived Friday morning:

Will check it all out properly tomorrow when I have a little more time perhaps, but won't be fitted for a while as I need to knock up a new DP to suit.

@Rainbird where did you order from without paying $300 delivery in the end?... I've just noticed my DP is leaking at the flexi, could be a good excuse to have a look at one of these!

Plenty on eBay Lewis. They work out at £240 shipped for a full turbo back.

Would suit your car perfectly!

@VAG-Slag, as @Prawn and @craigt1985 have mentioned it's just from the Bay. That black one is very slightly different (it's black, for staters...) but wouldn't surprise me if they came out of the same factory. Mine was from seller jdmhondaparts but they don't seem to have one listed at the mo. Happened before, annoyingly right when I was originally looking to buy, but they popped back up again the following week. All import duty/VAT etc was covered by the seller, and sold the standard DP/decat for £85, which has more than covered the materials to build one to suit the '064 I'm going to be running.

I'm also knocking up a 3.5" DP for it, though need to get the engine in the car so I can finalise everything before welding it up. Have gone for a shorter flexi than pictured below now mind.
