Hello guys!!! I am new to this forum and i dont even know if the place to post what I would like to ask is correct.

Actually I've bought my s3 8v s-tronic around a month ago and now I have around 1600km on board. The most of my driving is in the city and less in highways. Today I observed something strange to my gearbox and I dont know if it is something important or not.

Usually I drive in comfort mode and on D using the paddle shifts some time. Today, i started the car and drive it for around 10km in the city and I observed that the gear changes was made in higher revs.
For example the gear for going from 1st to 2nd was made exactly at 2100 rpm which is normal but the gear change from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th and etc was made at 2500 rpm.
Without going to 2500 then the gear didnt changed by itself as it did normally before.

Now I know that I can use the paddle shifts to change the gear but for the whole month now the gearbox reacted on this way by changing gears at around 2100-2200 rpm and now it wanted 2500.

Does anyone knows why?? Does anyone had any similar situation??

Bear in mind that the whole description above is for normal driving.

Thanks a lot.

Have you accidentally knocked the gear stick into sport? Knocking it backwards does this. This will hold the up shift a little longer.

Welcome along.

Ps also if you are using the paddles the gearbox shifts into sport if I'm not mistaken. Therefore, if you flick the paddle to move up then forget it takes a little longer for the car to recognise that you haven't changed. It'll then revert back to D.

Actually I checked also that to see if i put it in S instead of D but no. It were in D. Also the paddles works normally and when I revert back to D again the same thing.
Also, bear in mind that the dashboard does not showed any fault.

I also find it varies depending on how you are driving it. It will hols gears longer if it thinks you are trying acelerate harder or if you are going uphill.

Guys the road was straight and no uphills were. Itwas my daily driving attitude with no something special!!!

Hard to say without having the 'feel' of it. The stronic I have found very sensitive and changes characteristics often to subtle changes in driving style. To say it moves gear at an exact rpm everytime seems strange in itself- like @musicegbdf says, gear changes will be instigated depending on many factors. If the car still feels right but just different id say nowt to worry about, if the drive is uncomfortable then maybe not. I wouldn't be losing sleep over different rpm values though.

Heheheheehhe!!thanks very much for the info guys but after a 4 hours brake I restarted the car to go somewhere else and the gearbox is as normal. Everything as used to be!!!! Very excited!!!!

Just to make it clear what I am saying is that if your right foot is very stable om gas and not to the floor the changes are made between 2000-2300 rpm. I am not saying is absolutely the same rpm every change!!!

The upshifts in D all depends on the level of throttle input so does vary.

also if you are using the paddles the gearbox shifts into sport if I'm not mistaken. .
No it switches to manual then reverts back to D after a while. You would have to be in Sport in the first place, then use the paddles for manual mode for it to then revert back to Sport if that makes sense.

What I like is using the paddles to downshift ie 6 to 4, then 3 for quicker engine braking than what the ecu will give before coming to a junction then selecting from manual back to drive on the gear lever as I usually can't be bothered pulling away in manual mode.

The only thing I don't like is the fact it always switches to Sport whenever I change the Drive Select from Individual to Dynamic and vice versa.

S-Tronic is brilliant. Coming from manual cars I didn't like it at first but I absolutely love it now.
