Got home tonight and I could hear a faint beeping sound like a reversing lorry. Opened the bonnet and it was coming from the rear left of the engine bay near the brake fluid reservoir. I checked the oil, which was low, so topped it up. Beeping stopped a few minutes later.

Any ideas?

The only beeper like that is in the dash clocks. And then you get a warning symbol on your display aswell to accompany the beep. Was it perhaps your charcoal cannister? These are well known to click, i guess it could maybe whine a bit and sound like a beep. Otherwise a picture of the area will help us spot something if you dont know what youre looking for...

Thanks mate. Definite alarm type beeping- like a reversing lorry. Definitely from the engine bay near the brake fluid res. Will see what happens tomorrow.

I wonder if your dash warning alarm has somehow come adrift and fallen down behind the dash, near the bulkhead, making it sound like the sound is coming from the engine bay, was there a warning symbol on your dash when the alarm was sounding?

No, there wasn't. The dash warning went off for washer fluid the other day and it's completely different.

It hasn't done it since...

If it sounds like an alarm clock, then I would check your alarm speaker in the rear left quarter. If you have access to VCDS, a scan will show up if it's been triggered. :)

Hahaha wtf is that?! Thats hilarious! Ive never heard my car make that noise, id love to know what it is!

I know! ****** weird, but also a little worrying. Coming from near the expansion tank under the black cover.

Mmmm, I wonder if you're expansion tank cap is letting pressure out in small bursts, making the beeping sound around the rubber seal.

Sounds air related. Almost like when you get air in water pipes

Thanks for the input lads. I think my only option is to take as much stuff off as possible next time it happens, so I can at least pinpoint its origin exactly.

Could be the one way servo vac hose valve leaking very slightly.
