Well where to begin?

The 1st A3 and its 5,500km journey home and short one year life span.

Or 2nd A3 and its current progress as its still alive.

Apparently I tried to post to many pictures for the 1st one... so here's both.

1st Lava Grey 3.2 Quattro - Purchased from Miami Florida back in 2012, driven 5,500km (3,500mi) home over 3 days.

And how it looked on its last road trip.

Was a good car, sadly on a road trip to Vancouver it was murdered on the road home... Road debris flew through the engine block. Lucky for me insurance covered the car. But decided to write it off as Audi quoted 16,000 for a new engine.

2nd A3 and Current will follow. Plus if you are curious of the first one I do have an entire documented thread locally including road trip story, which I can share here as well of course.

Wow you have all the luck, wishing you good luck for the new one.

Thanks! The first car was great, managed to out 40k km (25k mi) on it before it died and saw some awesome road trips.

My current one is brilliant black, and I've put on 26k km (16k mi) since last February when I bought it.

Here is how it looked when I first got it. (and cleaned properly or course)

It's another 2007 3.2, with nav this time so that's a bonus.

More to follow.
Cheers,
Ponto

I recognise your pics from somewhere else, is this the 1st posting of them or another forum.

After owning two. Completely agree. But I liked the title after going across an entire continent to find my first one.

1st time posting here. Other forums though for sure.

Thought so as I recognise the username.

Oh wait... I think I did post the road trip here. For some reason I couldn't find any of my old posts.

Yeah back in 2013... Whoops!! My bad.

Well that old car and dead and gone. Time for the new and improved.

So far I have the following done as a summary.

KW V1 coilovers
Magnaflow catback exhaust
034 rear sway bar
HPA Puck Mount (80d)
S5 Steering wheel
RS3 shift knob
Euro led tails with 5 chip Cree led reverse bulbs added
Titanium Grill

And getting delivered today is the rs3 leather wrapped door handles and center grab handles to be installed later along with the updated chrome tipped window switches.

Current picture!

I got the euro tails off a guy in LA who was parting it out. But they are from BKS tuning. Oem with harnesses, just require some coding to light up properly.

And the switches I set up with BKS over a year ago for a group buy. But they still do have them all on their website.

I'll dig up my pictures of them.

thanks for the info- almost positive i read your travels thread on vwvortex. You had to twist the rod to use the front click correct? I like the look of the Stronic but am new to Audis and for simplicity sake was going to go with this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A3-S3-...HIFT-knob-FOR-Sportback-RS3-8-p-/261209651395

The euro tails are nice- so i would need the tails and adapters as i have a prefacelift 2008 correct?

It was posted on here as well actually. The vortex does have a lot of additional road trips across Canada added as well.

Ya you would have to twist the shift rod. It's really quite easy, I did the cut and tap method. I can dig up those pictures as well if you'd like. They look and feel a hundred times better than the stock ones. Also that price seems a little high, double check on BKS tuning for the knobs.

Oh and these are the switches.

As for the tails you will need the harnesses correct, and the inner led tubes have to be tied into a power source, the license plate power line is most common and easy to do as well. Install took me maybe an hour including programming.

Here is essentially the process of cut and tap for switching the shift rod for the updated shift knobs. Total time was about 15 minutes.

2mm tap for a 2mm grub scew to be screwed into both ends.

Oh and I am a big fan of road trips as some of you may know... this was my most recent one.

Actual total came in at about 3,500km over the 11 days.

A few highlights.

Flat prairies are flat.

And always gotta stop at HPA when I roll through town... one day I should really buy their turbo kit.

Down on the water at my cousins Cabin

Out for a canoe with my girlfriend.

IMG_7641_zps733ba2cf.jpg

It was awesome out there, so nice to get away from it all and disconnected. Only had solar power at the cabin.

After that we headed back to the mainland and down to seattle, got to meet up with a fellow 3.2 owner and drive the Chuckanut drive (yes theres an actual road called that, its a fun winding road!)

And in seattle!

That's enough whoreage for one day.

Trying to think if I have done anything else new aside from paying the damn thing off. And well buying a house haha.

Back when it was under construction this winter

And completed minus walks and landscaping to be finished this summer.

The House! by Ryan Ponto, on Flickr

However back to the car I did pick up a dual LED trunk light conversion, and all interior LED's to be installed. Once the house stuff is done then the car can get some new love, like fresh paint on the front end, maybe change up the magnaflow exhaust and who knows. Just passed 190,000km this morning on her.

And some proper interior shots
