I found a tiny scratch on the nearside passenger door. It is only 5mm long and hard to see but I want to consider if there is anything I can do about it. I already used my two very light rubbing compounds but as I thought it is too deep for them to have any real effect. Can anyone recommend any DIY techniques I can use to fill the scratch - and recommended products? What about paying for a 'mobile repair' service? Would they do a full rub-down, prime and spray? If so it doesn't seem worth it.

respray I think mate looks right down through the paint down to the base coat. Smart repair would do it but not sure about the finished quality of them. you could try touch up paint by building it up then wet sanding level and machine polish to finish.

Have a look here

@Dippy think I PM'd you the guy who fixed my issues? If not get in touch. I'm sure he'd help and not charge the earth.

Respray for that damage is like cutting off a finger because of a broken finger nail.....

Lots of articles on detailing world but you will also hear about Chipex.

Excellent stuff. Paint is matched to your colour code. You delicately touch up the scratch (couple of layers for best results) and then with the blending formula it will be fixed. Watch their video.

Best repair outside of using a touch up pen and then wet sanding / polishing the repair. In fact it's just as good if not better.

Work wonders too with stone chips.

Be wary though, the Sepang chipex kit I bought didn't match my paint colour..

You could try touching up very carefully with Audi touch up, use an artists brush the very finest you can find. Then carefully polish the high paint out. If not get a chip repair man to do it.

Thanks guys. I am deciding between ignoring it (which is entirely possible) or doing a touch-up myself, although I don't want to risk making it worse.

On how to apply the paint. What I tend to do with stone chips is to get some colour coded paint, a small bottle of lacquer and mix a little together. Then use a pin to dab in the paint/lacquer mix and build the layers up. Finish it off when it's dry with some polish then protection over the top. Worked great for me.
