Hi guys,

My A3 is only 2 and half years old but mileage is approaching 60k so Audi warranty will no longer be valid.

Has anyone taken out Warranty for their A3 or other car?
Any tips or advice what to look out for etc.

Thanks

I believe you can extend the Audi warranty, I think it would probably be a better move. TBH most aftermarket warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on due to all the limitations and exclusions.
Obviously some people manage to claim but I suspect you will find a lot more people who will tell you what a waste it is.
Does your car have an auto box, S-tronic or any other particularly expensive parts ? .

It's a A3 Sportback 1.6tdi stop/start 6 speed manual.

But this one covers all parts and up to £200 per hour labour cost with £5k max per job.

Nearly 1/3 of the reviews are 1 star , another 10% are either 2 or 3 stars and if you read most of the 5 star reviews they are from people who have just rated them on how easy and straight forward it is to take out cover.
Read the Parts excluded list
http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/whats-not-covered/
There are so many ways that they can get out of paying for a failure it makes your head spin.

Parts Excluded
  1. Bodywork, paintwork, exterior and interior trim, cabriolet roofs, lifting struts, catches, hinges, brackets, slides, runners, locks and barrels, keys and key fobs; seat frames, glass in windows, mirrors and lamps (heated or otherwise), wheels and tyres, tyre valves and pressure sensors, exhaust manifolds and silencers, sub-frames, mountings and rubber bushes, carbonisation (soot) build up (in particular of catalysts, exhaust gas recirculation valves and diesel particulate filters), burnt out valves, fuel and coolant tanks, hoses, pipes, joints, unions and fittings, auxiliary drive belts, batteries (including hybrid drive batteries and power packs) fuses, bulbs, wiring and connectors together with normal wear and tear of: brake discs, pads, drums, shoes and clutch linings (unless such Parts are specifically included with any selected Addition. Please see Section D – Additions).
  2. Any service parts periodically replaced during the manufacturer’s recommended servicing of the Vehicle unless any such items are (at our discretion) authorised within the costs of a valid repair providing the Vehicle is not within 1,000 miles or 30 days of its next scheduled service.
  3. All non-mechanical and non-electrical Parts.
  4. Any Part or Addition particularly excluded from or not specifically included within Your Plan.
  5. Any Part that has not suffered a Breakdown or Failure Due to Wear and Tear (as defined).
  6. Worn Out Parts.
  7. The repair or replacement of any Part not authorised by us.
  8. The repair or replacement of any Part where you (or your Repairer) have denied us the right to have that Part examined by an Independent Vehicle Examiner.
  9. The replacement of any camshaft timing belt, tensioner or any associated Repair Cost where it cannot be shown within the Vehicle’s service record that the correct servicing of the camshaft belt and tensioner has been carried out previously.
  10. Any Part that has not suffered a Breakdown or Failure Due to Wear and Tear (as defined) but which is simply recommended for replacement by your Repairer.
  11. Any Part noted as requiring attention on any previous MoT Advisory Notice accompanying a VOSA MoT Certificate (VT20).
  12. Any Part noted as requiring attention on any previous servicing schedule or health check.
  13. Any items fitted to your Vehicle after the date of manufacture such as: roof racks, cycle carriers, tow bars, ladders, stabilisers and towing equipment etc (not a complete list).
  14. Any Part which has been in any way modified and is not to the manufacturer’s approved specification or any Part damaged due to it being forced or operated incorrectly.
  15. Any Parts which are rusty, corroded or seized-up (such as catalytic convertors), Parts blocked up with carbon (such as EGR valves and DPF filters). Parts which have suffered Breakdown or Failure Due to Wear and Tear due to flooding or water ingress, de-lamination, condensation, freezing, burning, melting; a lack of or incorrect coolant, lubricant or fuel; blockage due to swarf or sludge; Parts which are electrically overloaded due to incorrect use of welding, starting or charging equipment; any fuel, fluid, coolant or oil leak not specifically included within Your Plan.
  16. The Breakdown or Failure Due to Wear and Tear of a Part of your Vehicle with inherent, common and regularly occurring manufacturing faults which were well publicised (such as Google Internet search) at the date you purchased this Plan together with any Part requiring replacement due to it being up-dated, superseded, re-designed or recalled by the manufacturer where you have no proof that the Part has been previously replaced.
  17. Any Part which has suffered a Breakdown or Failure Due to Wear and Tear due to a lack of or incorrect servicing, oil or coolant leak, negligence, neglect, misuse, broken by your Repairer, criminal damage, theft or attempted theft, accident or any Part not reported at the time of repair by your Repairer.
  18. Any Part which within the last 12 months has been the subject of a previous repair, attempted repair or documented as advised in need of repair.
  19. Parts covered by any other plan, warranty, guarantee or goodwill offer of settlement.

I panicked reading all that. Then I read the online reviews and they were all bad.
I just rang Warrantywise with my concerns and they said that with my top level of cover I am covered for wear and tear starting after 30 days or 1000 miles.
I have all the additions so even a DPF will be covered.
They said that most reviews are for cars over 10 years old or high mileage which doesn't cover wear and tear.
Only time will tell if I have made a mistake. Wish me luck.

Usman 786,
I am confused as your original post tells us that you are approaching 60 k miles and then your post 4 indicates that Warrentywise only cover up to 60 k miles. Do they do some other cover beyond the example and mileage stated?
I was with Warrentywise for the same reasons as you on my last A4 , but fortunately never needed to claim. I took the platinum, and like you the additions (that cover many of the exclusions stated above). It did give me peace of mind that the potential expensive items were in fact covered. Would I do it again? the answer is yes as you can easily run up a bill into the high hundreds for Audi repairs and after research, I felt it was worth the gamble . Hope it works out for you.

They have various cover, if you take out cover before 60k miles you get better coverage than taking it over 60k miles. I took out a 2 year warranty, the cover level will apply over the 2 years, I would have got less cover if I renewed after 12 months. Plus I can transfer the warranty to new owner if I decide to sell.
