My S3 8P is 10 years old now and although it's got a full service history I have to question the value of getting Audi to perform what amounts to little more than an oil change and visual inspection. I'm very happy to service the car myself and can do a more complete job for less money, putting in the oil I want use etc.

I'm stage 2+ and don't plan on selling the car so just wondered what people's thoughts were on continuing down the Audi service stamp route?

The FSH route makes sense only when you know you're going to pass the car on in a limited time.

I had the first few services done by Audi and then went to a very good independent as I'm no good with the oily bits, but if you can do it yourself, you have the added advantages you mentioned.

As long as you keep all your bills and receipts, then you still have proof of the items being bought, should someone else need that down the line.
You can probably guess that I'm not a great fan of dealers prices, but I do still keep all of my bills from AMD and Storm.....just in case.

Any reputable vag specialist garage will use genuine parts so no need to go to Audi. Same job same parts but much cheaper.

If you documented diy using an Ester racing oil and Mann filters someone would be very satisfied , no need for indi's .

So no one thinks that I'll 'loose' anything with the indie/diy route as long as I keep all receipts, that's good to hear.

I don't think you'll lose much. As said, if you keep all receipts and so forth should be fine if you do come to sell. A decent buyer will quickly suss if you look after your motor, that's more important. Oddly, with mine I have gone to the local dealer for services, but use a good independent for any other work, ticks both boxes :)

This is exactly what I do but not sure I want to pay for the dealer service any more when I can do a better job for less.

I'm going to do it myself

Using a vag specialist to service the car you wont loose any value.

Doing it yourself will loose value and put off a lot of potential buyers.

If you are going to keep it then there is no reason to not do it yourself though.

If you are capable doing a diy service, yes, it makes sense especially on a 10 year old car. As you say, you can use the best service items that you prefer. No ones going care a hoot about you self servicing, just keep all the invoices for your parts and sign and tick the service book also noting any other parts you have changed.

I do mine myself after Audi trying to rip me off saying my xenon washers don't work when they forgot to turn the lights on to get them to work in the first place.

Screams of incompetence to me, and when a service costs £60 instead of £260 for the same work carried out its a no brainier.

Keep all receipts and all will be fine I'd say.
