Facelift THE NEW AUDI A3 (2016 FACELIFT) – STILL AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Hi all,

I am just about to start a new job where I get to order a brand new Audi A3 as a company car. Apparently there are some options although I'm not expecting to be able to choose anything other than the basic engines and colours. However, I am wondering whether it will be the old model or the facelifted model I get to order, any ideas? I hope it's the facelifted model but there are no details other than "coming soon" bits on the Audi website. Will be a bit disappointed if I end up with the old model!

Unless the car is in stock somewhere it'll be a facelift (factory order).

Only thing separating the old model from facelift is really the Virtual **** Pit and Matrix Headlights, if these two features could be 'Dealer authorized' retrofitted... say a price of $2000 (You do the UK conversion) , would there be any reason for a facelift? Hecks no.

How about Apple and Android Airplay as well as new and improved version of MMI?

Plus how about the slightly different engine options and colours.

It's a facelift. What did you expect? A complete re-engineering of the whole car?? Wait for 8W then.
And have you ever seen before a car manufacturer retrofitting features from a new (new used loosely here) model to the previous model?
Do you understand the engineering, manufacturing, maintenance nightmare this would cause? For what gain? 0.00001% of people doing that!
Doesn't make sense.

Anyone heard any update on the ability to order the Matrix LED headlights and Virtual Cockpit?

From what I seen Android and Apple car play doesn't really add anything that's not somewhat easier accessible to those with MMI Navigation Plus package. You could already get your navigation, phone text messages, location searches, and music playback from the MMI Navigation Plus with Audi Connect as opposed to the Android Auto plug in your phone to provide tethered somewhat less seamless integration of this.

yeah 1.8T gets replaced with a slightly faster 2.0T but to be honest that 1.8T engine was a underpowered joke here in the US.
I was hoping the new 2.0T 252hp would get offered up to the A3 to replace the aged 220hp 2.0T, like the A4 and A6. Perhaps the next gen A3 will get it. But I'm not seeing anything to lavish about this facelift.

8W is not going to be the next version of the A3 surely... it went from L to P and then V!

There is nothing stopping you ordering them just a possible delay in manufacturing. I ordered my car on Sunday and still do not have a Build Week confirmed.

Had a phone call from the dealer today saying that the S3 and S3 sportback are now unlocked and available for configuration but the S3 saloon won't be available until next week, so he'll give me a call to configure mine.

I asked the question about the Matrix headlight and Virtual cockpit delay, and although he didn't confirm the delay, he suspects it is the case, as they are both down on his system as to be confirmed and can't get be specced.

Just spoke to my dealer...they are saying s3 saloon will be orderable from week 30...around 24th July I believe

I don't know if the Matrix headlights and the Virtual screen have to be different versions for RHD UK cars as opposed to LHD cars. If they do this could explain some of the delay. Audi AG will quite obviously get the ones for their home market sorted first.

I don't see why that would make a difference but then again what do I know...

The LED headlights and dash panel for the PFL versions were different parts so were probably not made at the same time by the suppliers so it's possible it's the same with the new Matrix headlights and Virtual Cockpit. If the supplier of these items as a fixed production number they will almost certainly produce the LHD version first.

The beam patterns will be controlled by the cars ecu and won't have different light clusters,so yeah left hand drive car's will have the same headlights as right hand drive cars so not a excuse for a delay

The matrix lights are controlled by the sat nav, thus they automatically set themselves to which ever country you happen to be in....

We will see when I get an update to ETKA showing the part numbers.

The existing Xenons have a 'Tourist Mode' which blocks out the part of the beam that would blind oncoming drivers but it does not give you the equivalent on the other side of the car, so again they are different parts. The dash panels are different parts because one shows MPH and the other KPH. As the new VC is completely electronic it may be just a setting to change from one to the other. That could be useful especially if it can be controlled from the MMI,

, it's still not a excuse for a delay of the Matrix lights, this so called delay with the lights lies the sub contractor hella or whoever it is...who really knows it's all hearsay just like most of this thread as av said before storm in tea cup....life's too short to be worrying about things like this...

I have spoke to Audi UK and the online chat today and both didn't have a scooby of the possible delay. However, I spoke to Coventry Audi and she mention the delay to Matrix LED headlights... Tbh I've no idea what is going on

It certainly won't be affecting me personally as I will not be ordering a new A3 with either option. My only problem is that Audi have not yet released details of the 2.0TDI-184 for some reason. As far as I'm aware at the moment it will be same engine as my existing A3. But no problem, when they release it, I will probably order one but in the mean time I will enjoy driving my existing one.

I've been into my dealer today to finalise spec and order. All done, but Advanced tech pack, Led matrix, and VC had to be entered manually into the dealer system.

Delivery date? Your guess is as good as mine, but I'm guessing quattro might be useful by the time it arrives...

Nice! If you hear anything from them in regards to Matrix and VC do let us know pal, its the only thing holding me back at the minute as I am not sure I have the patience to wait till December / January for delivery Lol

Had a play with an S3 using that link and can't see a way to get rid of those red air vents. Really, really hope they are not the only option. I am not going to criticise anyone who likes them, but to me they scream 1980's souped up Ford...
Certainly not to my taste either, but I'm quite sure they would be reasonably easy to change for black ones from another model even if you had to change the whole air-vent.

Certainly will. The feeling is that the deliveries will come forward, but at the moment Q4 for Matrix & VD is all they know.

According to Audi UK, the standard S3 spec is;

I'm guessing that the red vents are part of the optional 'Audi Design' interior.

That 7 Speed S-Tronic gearbox you speak of is only offered on Front wheel Drive A3 with it's new yet still underpowered 2.0T putting out a measly 186hp.

Look at the order guide I posted.

They kept the same 2.0T engine model I have 220hp with the same gear box just as the S3. No HP increase for either cars.

Carplay is way way way ahead of the current MMI 3G+ (and here I was saying I didn't like Carplay)

I'm tired of the current MMI, the propietary cable, hard media storage and weak BT connectivity. The MMI connect via wifi is as flakey as hell - I've tried to make it work and it is 5hite. Oh and I have MMI Navigation Plus (crippled with no sim card connectivity but tat is Aussie for you)

Sure, I don't like the Fisher Price front on the FL but have to say, after owning the current S3, I'd upgrade if I wasn't going to lose so much cash.

7 speed DSG - win
Improved dampers - win
Improved Haldex - win
Improved MMI and Carplay (and en effin USB supplied) - win
Matrix headlights - win, when they get here.

Not interested in the VC

I enjoy a lot of what my S3 has to offer but the FL is what it should have been. I have defended the current S3 long enough.

No doubt the nav is still as archaic as ever but rarely use it so it just provides a laugh now and then.

Audi are so far behind in most areas in this level of car. I'd buy it again because it does a lot well but could have done a lot better and without much work by Audi.

I like my colour coded ones - just a bit more subtle :)

S3 now gets a 7 speed too.

Not in the US market.

Gamegenie was only referring to the US market that the 7-speed DSG is only paired with the new weaker 190ps 2.0TFSI engine for the FWD A3.

The 220ps and 290ps 2.0TFSI engines used in the A3 2.0T quattro and S3, respecitvely, in the US market are still paired with the 6-speed DSG for the facelift.

Ah, thought perhaps he meant that but couldn't see any ref to US.
