Hi all,

I've been given a 1999 4.2 Quattro that's been off the road a while. Everything else is coming along nicely and once this hurdle is behind me I should be able to get the MOT done and finally drive it but....

Both front springs are snapped; I've got them off and ready to replace but I'm having real trouble finding the right springs. The ones that came off were green/yellow paint marked so I want to go OEM and replace like for like if I can. It has air on the back and I believe sports sus on the front?

Does anyone know of any specialist suppliers in the UK that might be able to help with sourcing these? I'm having no luck at all...

Thanks,

Si

Hi, did you find some front coil springs? I might have a pair, I'd need to look, didn't want to if you were sorted. Cheers Andy.

I got hold of some but the paint marks were different to the previous although I was told that they were right for the car. I'm currently undecided whether I'll keep the ones I have on there as the car is sitting very high and looks a bit silly.

What paint marks do you have on yours and how much would you want for them please?

Mine have one brown and two pink, I have two pairs, one pair came off my own 2001 S6 when I upgraded, the other came off a used set of legs I bought that were from a 2.7T, looking at ETKA they're PR code 0JL which is weight range 11 in a scale that only reaches 12. (For the A6/S6)
What colour code are the springs you have?
I'd take £50 for a pair posted. They are in excellent condition.
Cheers Andy

Oh. That's odd... I was told green and yellow was correct for the v8 by my main dealer based on my number plate. Mine are green yellow yellow which the parts shop also told me were right. I think they must be a heavier duty spring or something, but the all road is air so not sure what else is heavier. Does the S6 have the same control arms? I'm guessing it sits lower than the a6. Got any photos?

OK well first things first, I don't have pics right now, but can certainly take some.
I've just looked further and there are four different springs with green and yellow, if I'm reading it right, all with different PR codes.
To be 100% correct for your car as it left the factory you need to find your PR code, it will be something like 0JL, 0JK, 0JL etc, we can work it out from that. Your PR code is on a sticker on the inside front cover of the service book, and another copy of the sticker is in the boot floor spare wheel well.
Having said all of that a V8 is a V8, weight wise the springs should be much of a muchness, it could be a comfort thing, the 2.7T and S6 are certainly both sports suspension, if yours is an A6 4.2 Quattro then it could have softer springs for more comfort as opposed to handling.

Ah ok. I'll have a look for it then. Everyone so far has been using the vin. I've got air on the back so that may make sense. Away with work so will have a look when I get back at the weekend. The car's been off the road for 8 years and both the springs it had before were green yellow but also both were broken so who knows if they were right...

No worries, I'll get a notification when you post again, we can go from there, cheers.
