Power steering failed and battery light on

Just driving home from work about to turn on to my road and suddenly steering was very heavy and nearly didn't make the corner and the battery light came on in from what I can gather a belt has snapped any ideas what one controls alternator and power steering pumper is it one belt does all? part number also how big of a job is it to change

Yep, auxiliary belt. Don't think you need to remove much, just the charge pipe as I remember. Not that I did it of course - thanks Mr AA man :)
 
Probably about , £20 ,google how to do it on you tube , Audi A3 /vw golf mk 4
 
I phoned tps they have 1 £35ish will have a Look and if it's to much for me il get a mechanic out cheers guy's
 
Do the tensioners tend to fail on these? is it recommended to change this aswel
 
Check for play in the tensioner pulley bearing while the belt is off, also spin the pulley with your hand to check the bearing isn't dry
 
Tensioners are usually fine. As dusty said give the roller a spin by hand to check.

Nothing needs to be removed to fit it. 15mm spanner on the tensioner lug and swing it away. If you know what you're doing its a 3 minute job. Allow half an hour if it's new to you and you'll probably swear at it a few times :laugh:

Well I tried couldn't loosen the tensioner so I leave it to a mechanic cheers anyway guys
 
Managed to get tensioner locked in got the jack out and rain has stopped play. Great
 
Finally managed to get it done today got car jacked up and managed to reach my hand under and do the bottom pulleys not ideal lying down in rain but at least it's done
