Replaced the front tyres today from the originals: 235 / 35 R19 91Y
The AO was clearly showing on the Tyre (as it still is on the rears).

Replacements have "lost" the AO, although gained ZR.

Now says: 235 / 35 ZR19
The 91Y is in in the smaller lettering on the tyre with brackets round it.

Treadwear number has increased from 240 to 280, presumably as it's a higher speed tyre.

Interestingly, one tyre is stamped April 2016, while the other January 2016.
Thought they'd both be April 2016 ??
The rears both have the same date.

The company that I ordered them from online said that there was a delay with getting my order which clearly stated the AO symbol. Wondering if they've just substituted the tyres.
Garage fitting them didn't say anything though.

For those that know about tyres, any of the above anything to be concerned about ??

I got a new tyre fitted a few months ago and noticed the same thing. The new one looks exactly like the originals but is ZR rated. I'm on 19s too.

This is the official explanation on the Audi sight regarding AO designated tyres....

Ao
Specially created for each Audi model and manufactured using the latest materials and testing criteria, Audi Genuine tyres ensure both wheel rim and tyre are coordinated to meet our exacting requirements.

To achieve the ‘AO’ marking for every model Audi Genuine tyres have to undergo around 50 performance criteria tests.

This is considerably more stringent than statutory tyre regulations.

Audi Genuine tyres are at the forefront when it comes to safety, comfort and driving on any road surface.

ignoring the DOT (so long as its relatively recent anyway) and ignoring the AO...

hope that helps.

The 91 Y is the load and speed rating. ZR is a bit slower but there is something about a ZR and Y together, which you seem to have, which gives a different speed rating. The speed rating is still high enough for the car so I wouldn't worry.

Excellent, Thanks for the advice / guidance - appreciated.
Nothing glaringly adverse, therefore am content.

Yes, tyres are Continentals.

Am always wary of tyre fitters - seems their remit in life is to not give you what you actually ordered and to rip you off in some way.

Once again, the tyre fitters offered a "free" tracking check.
In a moment of madness with my previous car, I agreed to the check only to find that, of course, my tracking was "slightly out".
They adjusted said tracking - the car was the worst handling ever experienced.

Steering had such a dramatic pull to the left (much more than the normal pull). Took it back, adjusted again, not really much better.
Had to take it to another garage who corrected the problem.

I hate buying tyres with a passion - that was the reason for selling my last two cars as was a bit lively with the throttle, hence replacing the front tyres every year. Thankfully, have calmed down now and no longer have the desire to go faster than someone else in a straight line anymore.

I eventually bought a new set for my B8 S4 and ended up finding the AA and up North they use National Tyres - that was just for Pirelli PZero Rosso - ie same as fitted at factory and I get (19") £80 LoveToShop vouchers sometime within the next 14 days they say! The tyres were as ordered, I asked to check the tyres before handing the wheels over (saves any problem later) and they were AO tyres, National Tyres should really either get the correct equipment or train their fitted how to remove and fit tyres without marking the wheels - I have a "clamp/grip" mark on the outside of every wheel now - no point in talking to them about it though, just remember to avoid them next time! Three of the new tyres have the same manufacture date and the fourth is about 6 months earlier - and that one has about 0.5mm less tread! This all reminds me about buying a pair of P6000 for my VX Cav GSI 2000 16V 4X4 lots of years ago - new tyres ended up annoying the 4X4 system as they had a smaller rolling radius than the part used other pair!! About 20 years later I might have discovered Pirelli are still a bit like that - how annoying!
