Hi,

I'm encountering a few problems with my Audi. But the two major ones are:

1) The remote boot unlock doesn't work by using the key fob. I can only open the boot with the actual key.

To try and fix the problem, I've replaced the fuse but no luck. Having read various forums, it was suggested that there could be a problem with the Solenoid in the boot lid. I've removed the cover and I can't see anything obviously wrong with the wiring so I think it could be the solenoid. Videos and things I have watched seem to suggest it should be simple and cheap to replace and fit yourself. However, the videos I've watched don't look the same as my boot. Please see the images.

The Solenoid seems to be covered by another cover, it would appear to mould into the plastic. Anyone had any experience replacing one of these? Any guidance as to how it can be done.

2) The roof will not go down. When I press the switch a message comes up saying "Soft top cannot be used". Again, I've replaced the fuse but no luck. I've used the manual key to fold the roof down and then I've brought it back up. And it still won't operate electronically.

When I try to use the switch there is no noise at all, so I don't think the motor is even trying to move. Anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance, all suggestions are very much appreciated.

Really you need to hook it up to vag-com (vcds) as that could tell ya what it is. The roof could be the hydraulic pump not wanting to work, or not having enough voltage. Could be a sensor somewhere, or maybe the "roof leaver" not working?

I'm not sure on the boot unlocking, but I'm sure vcds would tell ya.

I'm wondering if the two problems are related.

OK thanks, just ordered the software so hopefully that'll help with the roof.

If anyone's got any ideas about the boot, I'd be grateful.

If you look closely then the cover you described is held on with4/5 plastic speader rivits black plastic buttons with a hole in the middle put a screwdriver under the edge and prize upwards the top should come off and the bottom part should shrink and be able to be pulled out of the hole the cover will come off.

Really you need a scan with vcds because the roof won't work if it thinks the boots open so if a solinoid is faulty the roof system won't be getting the readings it needs

It might not be the solinoid so a scan really needs to be done

Hi, thanks for your help.

I've bought the VAG-com software but having problems with the seller.....anyway I will do a reading once it's resolved.

I'm hoping the roof and the boot are related problems. Can anyone recommend suggest where I can get a replacement solenoid for the boot? I've looked on ebay and parts catalogues but no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, should have looked, new to the site! I'll have another look on ebay.

It has been mentioned above, but the boot and roof cannot both be open at once, so if any of your roof cycle is not seen to be complete, then the boot release will not work, and only the key will allow you to open the boot.
Similarly, if the boot shelf is up, then the roof cannot be operated; I have not checked if it can complete a close cycle.

Check that you have actually completed the closing cycle, including shutting the hard cover. Check on VCDS for the position switches (2, 6 & 7) and compare with web (YouTube has roof cycle and switch positions, linked from Ross-Tech Wiki)

Once you have VCDS working, and the faults recorded and then cleared, you may be able to operate the boot by selecting an output test. (Did similar for a friend; the fuse for the boot had blown, but I could still operate the boot lock and see the boot handle operate, but the boot handle would not operate the boot lock. Changed the fuse, all was good. Outstanding problem with the boot light switch, which is a different switch in the boot lock, but that's a different issue)

Got any news?
