low end coilovers or mid range lowering spring, which is likely to be the better.

still undecided wether to go coilovers ( low end range) or lowering springs chaps and was hoping to get some feedback on these items.
I'd like to go coilovers to get a decent drop but the low end ones do appear to get a fair bit of negative reviews on fitting, longevity and quailty so maybe i should go with some better quailty springs, i wont get the drop at 30mm allround but it may settle lower , any thoughts before i make a spot descision.
link here for my old bus fttments.

Coilovers are always hit and miss with me tbh, I have a high end set on the s3 (kW variant 2's), best part of a grand.

Would I have them again? Not a chance. You'll fit and set them once and never play with them again, or I didn't so was pointless having that adjustability, I set the height and rebound once and left them, also if you do want to adjust them 9/10 the collar locks solid and is frozen due to road grime etc.

If your budget doesn't allow for say Mid range AP's I wouldn't bother. I'd just buy a good damper and Spring combo and be done, that's what I'm doing this time round.

Just my 2 penath though.

Me and my brother both had a corolla tsport he bought bc coil overs for about £800 I bought apex springs for about £90 lol he never had any problems but had it quite low and stiff as hell! But like Dani-b said he set them up once and never again!

My rear shocks were too soft and with the spacers I had my tyres kept catching so I ended up buying adjustable stiffness shockers. I see too many threads on the threads £&@&ing up or coil overs knocking I'd probably still get springs especially with the Audi having those red sline shocks.

Saying that though it is tempting when you see the coil overs for £250!

thanks for the replies guys, have been trawling the interwebby thing again and found some new H&R sport lowering springs 45mm drop that will fit my specific model for £150 inc postage so will go that route i think.

Nice! Look forward to seeing some pics so make sure you get plenty haha

Can vouch for superb quality of eibach sportline 45/50mm. Still comfy and give a nice use able drop ! 115 quid on ebay from a German seller too

thanks mate, i was going to go that route but 30mm drop so deduct the s-line drop allready and thats not going to be really very much , also it was all that came up for my quattro avant, whereas H&R kit is 45mm allround and is model specific to my car so the drop will be more in line with what i would like, also at £150 in all delivered its not a bad price.

I am just about to have the springs replaced on my car and elected for the ST springs which are about 30mm drop, my concern with going any lower was tyre rubbing with 19 inch wheels and issues in London with speed ramps etc .
I already have my 911(see avatar) which is as low as a hover and many places are a no go with that so that boring term practical has to be a factor.
I hope the ST springs do work and give the car a better stance or I will have wasted more money on another whim again.

1972 2.4E RHD quite modified had it 25 yrs did a nut and bolt restoration 12 yrs ago about 5000 hrs work amazing cars these and hard to believe it's nearly 50 yrs old the way it drives, they were so ahead of the game those Germans.

Eibach springs with Bilstein dampers a legendary partnership and exactly what a Bilstein kit is .

It's like comparing a tuning box to a remap.

My experiences...

Weitec GT springs and matched dampers on my previous car - pretty good.

KW Variant 1 coilovers on my brother's car - brilliant. Yes, it's a lot of money and he's not likely to raise/lower it very often, but the ride quality and damping are very good for road use. Not up to serious track duties but that's not what his car is for.

My A4 - H&R 45mm springs on brand new Quattro GmbH DTM shocks. Pretty good but just a little too low for getting over my parent's driveway. I scrape the undertrays and exhaust. I don't live there but do like to visit.

If you're interested, the H&R springs will be up for sale soon. Less than a year old and probably less than 5,000 miles on them. I can send more information if you want?

very nice ,love the classic 911's , i've had a fair few over the years myself, started out with a 924 turbo then onto 944 lux, 944 turbo, 944s2, 968 club sport , 911 C4 (964) all sadly gone now, but still have my 924 carrera GTS which is a serious tool , so not to bad.

Yes love the early 911's I think this is my 6th one and also came very close to buying a 924 Carrera GT my neighbour had one for some years and I was poised to have it when along came this lovely 911 2.2s which won the day wish I still had it too.
My main concern with the 924 carrera was how difficult it was to work on it I have never seen so much crammed in under the bonnet! But a great looking car and one of my favourites of the water cooled cars.

yes they certainly optimized every bit of space in the engine bay, my GTS is 280bhp which to be honest from a 924 turbo, 2 litre, single overhead camshaft 4 cylinder with 2 valves per cylinder engine is a lot, you do get a real buzz when its on full boost.......just don't do it in the wet.
