I've been putting this off for ages but nearly in the position to get a weekend car!

Looking at £15-20k budget, don't care about mpg as it will be used at weekends and maybe 1 commute a week. Don't have kids so don't necessarily need the space!
Looking for performance, wow factor when putting the foot down and fun primarily, here's what I've considered so far - a very mixed list but like I say performance is key not size or shape!

TTRS
RS4
Porsche Boxster/Cayman S
SLK55 AMG
Lotus Elise SC

Any thoughts on the above? Particularly how the RS4 compares as that's the odd one out that's always been on my mind! Anything missing I should look at?

Cheers

Not gonna blow anyone away at lights or motorway, quite the opposite in fact, as Kanye and his posse said, "drive slow homie"....but i have a 1976 triumph spitfire 1500.

She's a proper likkul head turner and bags of fun.

Ahhhhh the smell of petrol and being knocked around senseless in that little tub cannot wait for summer :D

I'd choose the Elise out of those for weekend fun in the twisties

Porsche Cayman for me probably

To be fair, not much has changed over the years; still have a 'hers' and 'his' and hers still a ragtop... :racer::

Cheers guys - not really one answer as I though - I'll have to go out and test drive them I think!

Interested that no one has picked RS4 or TTRS on an Audi forum?

if its just a weekend toy you're after then £15-20k is TVR territory...

You'll get bored with your above choices after a few weeks. Tried Honda S2000, GP Mini, SLK they al went after a month or two.

Look what I ended up buying ( On the left) had it 5 years now , never boring.

Porsche Cayman or the Elise would be my choice.

Aerial Atom is the only one to go for - may be a bit too hardcore for you though.

Second would be the Elise, although as above, you will get bored in a relatively short space of time.

My choice - Hire Vehicle.
Then you can try a myriad of different vehicles over the weeks / months / years until you find something that you may wish to drive more than once / twice.

Enjoy, whichever vehicle you end up getting.
Weekend Cars are the Best !!

That really depends what you want to do at the weekend.

Track days - Lotus
Trips into Europe - AMG
Rob a bank - RS4
Long days out on great roads - Boxster or TTRS

The Lotus is the most engaging and exciting but unless you're hardcore, it'll **** you off over any kind of distance.

The AMG is a supersonic lounge chair. Great for getting to cool places in opulent comfort, but will you wish you were in something more engaging once you get there?

The RS4 would be an awesome daily if you can afford to run it and fast saloons are obviously cool as, but I just don't see it as a second car.

Personally I'd go for a Cayman S, Boxster S or TTRS. A great mix of comfort, pace and ability.

If the RS4 is one you have always fancied, you should get one. The values are holding up well and seem to be rising slightly. Looks like they will appreciate if you get the right one. For a weekend car-Elise or Cayman unless you want all wheel drive.

TTRS
RS4
Porsche Boxster/Cayman S
SLK55 AMG
Lotus Elise SC

IMO the RS4 doesn't really fit into my bracket of what I constitute as a "weekend car". Weekend cars are supposed to be fun, uncomfortable, not practical and focused on handling well.

So on that list my vote go towards the Cayman S or the Elise SC.

Aren't TTRSs going for like £26k+ still?

Push budget a tad further and definitely get a Nissan GTR!
There's nothing on the road or track that will keep up unless your on a ZX-10R!
