Not true, the Police will speak to the insurer who will usually confirm the person is not covered for that purpose - equals no insurance.

A mate of mine has seen a guy near where he lives driving dangerously a good few times over the past couple of months (going through red lights, cutting across the front of him as he's about to turn into his road, flying up behind him and then breaking heavily), a couple of weeks back he saw the same guy almost knock a kid off his bike when overtaking where it wasn't safe to. He followed him to see where he lived, he made a note of the reg and typed it into the "Is my car taxed" website, it came back that the tax was due last June!!! He reported the above incidents and the reg etc. to the police and he hasn't seen the car since.

I'm correct in thinking no tax = you can't insure the car?

Person who let him drive it will not own up so driver will get done for theft. Unfortunately had a friend and his son who had 2 years of hell from a similar situation.

Talking on the phone is unbelievable, 2 mins to set up Bluetooth......really!!!!

IMHO I'd like to see any one caught on the dog and bone get a minimum of 12 months ban. It should be classed the same as drink driving. Data would suggest that its even more dangerous.

I agree, as Dave says:

Most cars these days have this function so there is no excuse!

No excuse using a phone, let alone using it when the car has hands free. I hope they throw the book at this dickhead.

Go on youtube and search "A man was watching porn/masturbating while driving ". Don't want to post it here due to rules etc. Top hit posted 1 month back.

Isn't it you can't tax it without a valid MOT (if needed) and insurance.
Yes that is right but he wasn't talking about mot's was he? He said you can't insure it with out tax! Don't think there is any s3 saloons about that will need an not yet is there? Which is prob why not wasn't mentioned

I know he wasn't talking about mot which is why I stated in brackets (if needed). I was making a generic statement about the legal requirements needed to get VED.

And you don't need VED to get insurance. Insurance companies don't ask if you have a valid VED when getting insurance. Well they didn't ask me when I got mine.

In the States that will be one hefty ticket + fine, plus car impound, which will cost him $$ + $$ Proof of Insurance to get his S3 back.
