They do tend to crop up quite often but when you think about, apart from deciding which model to purchase, it it is probably the biggest decision that has to be made and the one that will most affects the driving and enjoyment of the car.

Most other options are 'nice to haves' but have much less affect on the actual driving experience.

It's always an interesting topic. I guess new threads are started so people can gather the latest opinions on it, rather than ones which are 2 years old. 2 years ago a member might have said their brand new 2014 S-Tronic was better than chips, but come 2016 they might have had a nightmare with it.

Who knows.

I predict at least 4 pages.

manual v auto ... I personally like both and each has its own merits, but generally opinions will always split with people favoring one or the other ...

And there was me thinking that colour choice was be all and end all, apart from deciding on interior light pack or not of course :)

Right so I ordered my new s3 in December and it gets delivered in march, after speaking to quite a few people most of them have said I should have got the automatic and not the manual but I like going through the gears!!

What's people opinions?

i spend a good few weekends with the demo car with s-tronic great gearbox but i went with my gut instinct and got manual i just prefer to be in control and feel more involved i got bored of the demo car as the gearbox is brilliant for me it took my excitement a little i am a manual driver ive had autos/dsg/smg2/dct boxes in all varients of my cars and always enjoyed the manuals more. personal preference but puts more of a smile on my mug

Came from manual to stronic.
Wife hates auto so one good reason to have it , as it means she does not want to drive it.
Three months in and still not sure. Some days i love it , other days pine for a manual.
I think with the stronic you have to learn how best to use it. I am still learning. I find myself using the auto and cruise , but flicking the paddles when the road gets interesting . Then on long straight bits back into auto.
Would i buy stronic again , not sure that i would. I would have a serious think if the extra cost was worth it.

I get the impression that many car buyers (those who are not that into cars or visit these forums regularly etc.) would prefer S-Tronic. Especially as it's a higher cost option versus manual, and therefore is probably viewed as the "premium" option. Audi certainly market S-Tronic heavily to give it that impression.

Therefore I think S-Tronic is a bit like Technology Pack or Advanced Key etc. - 2nd car buyers would expect it, and would likely overlook cars without it. Unless they're specifically after a manual.

Just a thought. If you're just giving it back to Audi at the end of a lease then who cares, but selling on privately...you might find competition against S-Tronic variants.

+1 for Manual. I came from a MY11 WRX... and all my previous cars, with exception of my first car (1994 VR Holden Commodore) have all been manual.

I live in Sydney CBD, and don't find the manual too much of a bother. Military Road/Spit Road heading out to Northern Beaches is a PITA as its stop/start, but meh, I live with it.

Also, I know my spec is "rare as hens teeth" - very few manual's are imported into Australia, usually special orders (like mine was).

...here's hoping when its time to offload, some enthusiast wants a manual, over an s-tronic!

Anywhere around the CBD is a PITA, nobody heard of roundabouts over there ??

Nah, a **** load of traffic lights, and idiots who cannot drive.

The irony is I much prefer a manual (and therefore have one) but if my travelling was in and around any city I would take the stronic. Sydney is a good example of busy multi lane roads with too many traffic lights........
For me it is choice depending on circumstance, my travelling is in light traffic only (hardly any stop/start in 15k miles) so really like the manual......it is a lovely gearbox.
