hey all,

my brother has the octavia vrs with the TFSI engine in it and recently had it remapped, the thing is rapid!!!

Im now getting itchy feet to get this done.

can anyone suggest any work my car might need doing to make sure it can cope with it okay?

the list of work it has had done so far is below:
-oil change with filter
-clutch switch changed
-PCV changed
-diverter valve
-timing belt
-water pump
-balance shaft sprocket(uprated part)
-oil pick pipe
-n80 valve

think thats everyting.

Darren

Tempted myself
Few company's have January offers on
Maybe spark plugs and coil packs would need changing

Getting my 2008 1.8t(163ps) re-mapped tomorrow, am interested to see/feel difference.

my brothers car's performance is very good, it is only front wheel drive so i know it will put the power down differently to mine. he has worked in the car business a lot of years and one of his friends do it so i would be going to him.

With a remap you need to be aware of hidden costs, within 24 hours of having mine done it cost me an extra £60 and 3 points on my license

if its a quattro , make sure the clutch is in good condition chap, if not then you may want to get it done before you start remapping your car .

and a decent clutch replacement job on a quattro is not a cheap job , if it were me , i would not even contemplate a remap unless you know your clutch is 100% mate, i dont want to put you off and all that but a remap will kill your clutch very quickly if its worn , i would be more inclined to spend the money on getting the engine running spot on first then go from there as a well sorted factory spec 220 bul engine is not a slow coach by any means , anyway , good luck with it and keep us upto speed on things.

Thanks for the heads up Quattro Gmbh 63!

At some point I will also be getting my 163bhp Re-mapped and will DEFINITELY honour the guys on here such as Paul @ unit 9 remaps that put in countless hours to ensure the maps are good and offer free and impartial advice.

The 163bhp with a standard map and no mods can go to about 200-210bhp.

But..im having a decat exhaust made, no resonator and slim line back box with a silicone TIP for good measure. With a Remap after, that should take a healthy 163bhp to around around 220+

I'm itching to have my 2.0TFSI remapped but before I do so I'm completing the following:

Cam chain and tensioner.
Cam-belt and water pump.
Oil pickup pipe.
Oil pump sprocket, chain and tensioner.
Intake decoke.
Coilpacks.
PCV (both sides done).
N80 (done).
DV+ (done, very happy).
034 Motorsport sports cat (done, very happy with it even on standard map).
APR or Loba HPFP.
Good look at my clutch and flywheel.
Revised intake cam if necessary.
Plugs (done but will do again).
034 or ECS intake pipe.
Runner flap delete depending on advice from remapper.

I'd rather have a reliable quick car than a fast but unreliable car.

Agreed SemiT,

Your car after all that will not be slow by any means! You'll get around 260bhp if gutting your exhaust too.

That's the plan. I have a spare K03 as well which I may hybrid or swap for a K04, whichever works out better value (with extra plumbing hassles with a K04).

Flipping heck, be more cost effective to shell out for an R8 :)

Probably, but I can't fit as many bodies in the boot...

I do all my own work so it's just parts prices.

Good plan.

Ive had mates do both options;

Not sure which would be more expensive.

If you're Hybrid-ing the Ko3s be sure to check out BBT I(beach buggy turbos) he does this for a living i believe.

BBT are who I'd send it to, they're getting great results from K03 hybrids.

I'm not too fussed on some of the awkward pipework changes needed for the K04.

Yes they are from what ive heard also.

Either way..your turbo upgrade will be ace.

Last time I looked their site was down and his only activity was on the dreaded Facebook.

It's a long way off though. Preventative maintenance first, cosmetics second, power third.

I'm also thinking of heading down the BBT route, ether that or the APR B7 TFSI S3 upgrade, like you I can be bothered with all the pipework changes of the K04 route.

The APR K04 is fully plug & play. They've angled the outlet pipe in the same direction as the original K03, complete with silencer chamber. They've also machined the holes required for the DV.

If it wasn't so expensive I'd definitely consider it. Last time I looked it was well over £3000.

Sorry but in my opinion, Whilst APR are the real deal in terms of VAG tuner, I would pay this amount.

I'd rather give the business to a local expert who spends countless hours helping us on this forum :)

That too! I'd only run the hardware, leave the map to someone more supportive/specialist.

Alternative is the Loba turbo for the B7 but I don't know much about it.

Sounds exciting. Agreed.

I'd most certainly stick with a reputable specialist.

Any preferences for a map?

The more I think about it, the more I'm liking the sound of a fit-and-forget K03 Hybrid.

Yes definitely.. 'R tech' Tech are very highly recommended and all over the VAG scene. 'Shark' performance. Paul@ unit 9 remaps.

All of the above have multiples of members on here very happy with their service. Im based in London and would quite happily drive to one of the above to sort me out :)

I do too.. the sound of a BBT tinkered KO3 or KO3s hybrid sounds gooood!

R-Tech are my first choice. They mapped my 1.8T and are remapping my brother's A3 soon.

Rick at Unicorn Motor Developments in Stockport is also very good with these engines.
A forum supporter and mapped many users cars off here. Writes all his own maps so they are customised to what you need on the car and take into account all the mods you have.

I've also heard good things about Unicorn.

More choices for all of us.

DrStrange - to front-mount or not to front-mount?

Spooky posting..

Sorry guys, I was literally moments away from adding Rick @ Unicorn Motor Developments to the list. Originally heard it from Dessertstorm above. Again another 'tuner' on here who knows his stuff. Just check the company FB for more details.

Apparently our cars our able to effectively handle up to 300bhp without the 'proven' need for a FMIC. Saying that the side mount isnt great and a friend of mine went from a stock A3 with 150bhp Ko3 turbo to a little rocket 260bhp!

To do this he had;

De-cat down pipe
Straight through exhaust
All the pipe work including DV and TIP
Ko4 turbo upgrade!
FMIC
TT injectors
Remap

In my opinion in depends what you want to do..the finished article ?
