Hello everyone. I have a huge problem with my cruise control on my Audi a4 b7. Namely, today I took my car to a workshop to have my broken cruise control stalk replaced by another one, used. After an hour or so, it was done, so I took a test drive and figured out it did n`t work! At all, dead completely! Then I drove my car back to the workshop to have it checked, but the guy who replaced it said he did everything properly. I googled a bit afterwards when I got back home and it mostly says it needs some coding, or better to say re-coding. My question is guys, what should I do now? If re-coding is needed, can anyone please tell me, step-by-step, what to do? My Audi is 1.9 tdi, 2006., with multi-functional steering wheel.

Thanks in advance!

After replacing, or...?

What do u suggest then, mate? Should I replace the switch too?

Mine was fine before and haven't had too replace it why did you replace stalk did it break? Or have you retro fitted cruise control? I went too use mine the other day and it wasn't working so checked with vcds and clutch switch was stuck on no fault code! Replaced switch and working perfect.

Yes, I bought my car with the cc lever broken. The guy who owned the car before me bought a used stalk and it had been in my trunk for a month or so. Could it be that he bought a bad one?
I am also confused because I've read somewhere that, once you retrofit cc-it has to be coded, but if you replace it-coding is not necessary.. I'm becoming desperate..

If it was already fitted working then it must already have been coded but if not then u need too get it coded in but can't see someone fitting the stalk and not getting it working ... Best bet is too have it scaned with vcds but if it is coded try the clutch switch mate!

Hi mate. Have too say seems odd the garage didn't check to see if it was working. After all how can they guarantee there own work if not tested. You should not need to get it re coded if had cc before. I have just had mine retro fitted and was suggested to have the clutch switch changed. Which I did. Because you are not sure if the cc was working to start off I would suggest you get it on a VCDS and check. It will tell you if it's the stalk, switch or coding.
Best way to be sure. I am sure there are members on here who can help. Whereabouts are you based.

And maybe phone the local Audi dealer, give them the VIN, or registration, and ask was cruise fitted when the car was spec'd. That way, if nothing else, you'll know if it was original spec, or whether someone has attempted a retro-fit and possibly failed. And as already suggested, you need to get it checked with VCDS to ensure the coding hasn't been messed with. The only thing I can add is that when I had a crank position sensor fail some time ago, it also knocked out cruise. However, I also had a "check engine" warning light . Although the car was still running fine.

As others have said, the only way to know whats going on is to check it with VCDS, but really it should be down to the workshop who fitted it. Just keep on at them, you paid them to fit it, so its their problem, not yours!
