Hello guys!

I got lost yesterday and had to go through a dark, isolated farm road....

By the time I realised, I couldn't turn back!

At one point (if it wasn't for this bit, I wouldn't have troubles today) the water went up half way to my bonnet!!
I s**t a brick and gave it power to push through. My dear amazing A3 pushed through and saved us both. I had to be in that position for around 10-20 seconds.

Not immediately but around a minute later there was some steam/white smoke coming out of the bonnet.

The car never stalled but the headlights were flickering the rest of the way and the drive was slightly rough. The engine management and emissions control went up for a bit but after an engine restart it went off.

I started the car up today with no problems. Checked oil and engine bay and everything was clear, BUT after I was on my way home, the oil temp gauge goes from 90 at one point to 50 and stays at 50 (that is after a lengthier drive).

Did I screw up my electrics? I'm panicking, I'm not sure what to do. I don't have a VCDS on hand but wondered whether someone was in similar position.

Hi mate i would get it checked out, something could be damaged or wet but at least it runs.I wrote off my ST Mondeo a couple of years ago in 12 inches of water so i think you have been lucky.
 
Still could be toast in all that water. Why didn't you go back instead of driving through the flood? that's daft.
 
Definitely worth getting it checked over. Another consideration, which some of my off roading buddies mention, is make sure things like radiators and such aren't clogged with mud/grime, it could simply be a case of filth affecting your sensors signals.

Went through similar, though not so deep, a couple of years ago and all seemed fine, but the next day I couldn't select any gears (manual) turned out that, much like how brake pads stick to disks after it's rained, the water had got into the flywheel casing and the clutch was stuck to the flywheel - thus it thinking I was already in gear. Had to turn over the starter in gear to 'crack' it free, all good after that.

I forgot to mention that my a3 is an automatic, I'm not sure if thats important but some of my colleagues say it might have made a slight difference?

I couldn't turn back because the roads were so tight. I risked getting stuck. Looking back I'd probably rather take that risk now...

I will check the engine bay again for anything suspicious, like mud etc. Once I get it checked out at the garage, I will post back, hopefully can help someone else, as well as me.

The thing that struck me the most is that there was quite a few cars there on the same road...

Got the car back today and the garage said there was no damage, they haven't checked the sensors as that would be 6 hours+ work but everything was given the green light.

Im never buying anything else but Audi. The most reliable car I've ever driven.

And I'm never driving into any water for that matter...lesson learned.

Lucky fella.. Do some reversing practice up narrow roads, in the dark, just in case there is a next time.

Sounds like you've been seriously lucky.

Water half way up your bonnet would normally result in serious engine damage!!

Glad your car is okay and nothing serious has hopefully occurred.

I'd be tempted to sell as soon as though.
Anything going wrong with your vehicle in the future now gives Audi the perfect opportunity to review your Records and say:

"Remember that time you went through bonnet high water. That's why you now have problem x - and it isn't covered by warranty."

Sell, sell, sell would be my advice.
