Hi All,

Finally getting round to doing my oil and fuel filter myself. Have ordered an oil suction pump as don't have the equipment to get underneath the car.

I've found a video explaining how to do the oil filter. Seems simple enough. Unscrew, reaplce (inc gasket) and soak with fresh oil.

Fuel filter. Am I right.. Unscrew 5 torx heads and replace filter? As mine is the BKD 8P engine do I need to soak the fuel filter or can I leave it to self prime?

Any advice on any of the above would be greatly appreciated :)

Yeah it's really simple, one thing to watch out for, there are two seal versions, one that looks like Micky mouse ears and the other one

Ive just ordered the fuel filter and it seems that it comes with the Mickey ones... Is this right? Or is it one of those things that you won't know until you get the filter out?

New O rings with each filter advisable..

Where do the O rings actually go? All the vids I've seen so far haven't shown any O rings.. Would like to use them though if they're advisable

The oil filter o ring goes on the end with the pointy bit that points towards the floor when refitted, I'm 99% sure the fuel filter just has the one on top

Sorry - got confused haha. The oil filter AFAIK has 1 big O ring that goes right up into the plastic screw part. I'm sure it'll all become apparent when I take the filters out as I'll replace exactly how they've come out with new.

Do you need to remove the excess fuel from the fuel filter part before replacing or leave it in for the new filter to soak into?

Yeah it's pretty self explanatory when you remove em, make sure you have plenty of tissue to hand as it's pretty messy if your not careful, I just pulled the old one out and replaced it, turned the car over then left it running for a couple of minutes to check everything worked properly

Superb, thanks guys for all your help. Should save me a few ££!

So tried this morning...

How do you get to the oil filter?!?! I can see it there and can get a socket on it but can't unscrew it because of big metal pipe in the way and then air intake on bottom right?!?!

Also, got the screws undone for the fuel filter except one. Managed to strip the head... :(

I think this is fated

Oil filter can be removed using socket and swivel joint. As for the screw, maybe use a pair of mole grips and a little patience.

Soak the broken screw with penetrating oil and unscrew with mole grips. If you can't get the screw out you'll have to buy a new housing as well.
Hope you bought an OE or Mann fuel filter as the cheap ones leak due to dodgy O ring not sealing properly.
Never had a problem removing the oil filter, I use an old adjustable spanner and that unscrews it just fine. You can buy the correct 1/2" drive large filter socket as well.
