As the title suggests i'm looking to make my S3 a fast road/ trackcar i'm on a budget for the time being so decided to strip the all the interior panels and now thats done i'm looking to remove a lot of wiring that wont be needed. I want to remove the climate control parts and wiring but a friendly mechanic mentioned that i may run into problems as he seems to think if i remove the wiring ill be breaking the circuit, he also mentioned the lighting may need to be kept. Would this be the case? Yes i am newish to all this, i'm the kind of person who dives in head first and learns along the way so please keep hate to a minimum any advice would be really appreciated

Use that thread for inspiration. There are several more like it on here, use the search function.

Before you gut your car for track use, make sure all the suspension components are in good shape and everything is in proper running order. No point losing 200kg in your car if your shocks are gone.

You'd also get alot less hate here if you use the search function. If you had, you really wouldn't need to create this thread. :p

Good luck and welcome to ASN.

This will be interesting are you going to keep it 4 wheel drive.
A couple of a3 threads on here, some of the auto-electrical ability amazes me. I am glad I am coloured blind, I can rely on that add an excuse.

Yeah sorry about that guys, i did try search but i couldnt find the exact information i needed about wether removing the climate control ect would mess with the circuit and cause problems, i had another chat with a a lad that builds track cars and he thinks that the best way to see if i would run into problems would be to turn the car on and individually unplug each wire till i find one that causes issues with running ect so definately have my work cut out for me. Should of mentioned it was originally my daily and has had a set of ap coilovers, H&R anti roll bars, ramair filter, maf, samco turbo intake pipe, forge 008p dv, haldex filter and oil change and everything service related other then coilpacks, brakes and pads have all been done and hardly have any use. Im in the process of mocking up a wellycooler to go on after ive taken the head off (spark plug no 3 is stuck so will need removing and helicoiling) whilst its off i thought i may as well get a head gasket kit and do the valve stem seals get it skimmed and a few other bits. Im wanting to polybush it all when i can afford it. Theres plenty that needs doing. I will be keeping it 4wd, ill be looking into a Haldex Controller to help adjust the split (any recommendations would be great) Unfortunately im not colour blind so i dont even have that as an excuse.

This may seem an odd question to ask but have you done any trackdays yet?

Reason I ask is I regularly see people building track cars, get so focused on what mods to do, spend all their money on mods and then give up on their project.

Get the car out on track, see what you think may need doing, what the weaknesses are and then go from there.

Just an opinion and if you have done trackdays, completely irrelevant!

And I do wonder whether it would be cheaper to buy someone else's half finished project - rather than ruining a perfectly good and future classic s3 8L?
The Haldex controller alone is 1K

I am interested myself about that little valve / insert.

I've got one of those. I bought mine from YHW (your haldex works) off of Ebay. I've travelled about 1500km so far on it and have had no issues at all. Zero binding, zero hassles. Changed the Haldex oil when I did this. I did notice the car has increased its tendency to understeer slightly. Nothing a proper alignment won't fix.
