Just gone to fit a GFB DV+ to my s3, popped the bonnet and found this forge jobby. Are they any good? Is it worth changing it for a GFB?

That's one of the older design with an atmospheric spacer,so it makes a bit of noise when closing the throttle.

I've had a Forge DV on my car for many yrs, from Stg1 through till now,and it still works perfectly.
I'd only consider changing it if something broke on it....

If you've already bought the GFB,then it makes sense to swap it out,as it's a more modern design,.

Yeah if makes a bit or noise when I let off the throttle. Yeah I have already bought one didn't think to look first haha!

I might swap it then if thats the case, and consider it an upgrade. Just give the forge one a check over and clean up.

Thanks!

I think if I was buying one now,I'd probably have chosen the GFB,so it's a good choice, and a lot of people here are happy with it.

The old Forge would probably fetch a few bucks to sell.

GFB DV+ valves are the mutts nuts but you will loose the excess boost noise, I'm sure that there would have been a small modification when fitting the forge, Alex will be more knowledgeable on that score, so it might not be a straight swap out anymore. The forge is still a good bit of kit though and you will get some money back so win win really.

That was my next question is there anything I need to bare in mind before swapping them haha?

You need to locate the original connector (its probably tied up somewhere near the DV) and probably buy a new hose that goes from the turbo inlet to the DV around the front of the engine ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MTC-MOTOR...TAKE-RETURN-HOSE-2-0-TFSI-BLACK-/262076376521
Finally, you will have to blank off the vacuum pipes.

So there's a lot of work, but it will be worth it! And you can sell the Forge valve to a chav on fleabay :congratulatory:

You will also need the electronic part of an OEM valve to connect to the GFB. Any revision is fine and I am sure someone on here will have a spare one if you ask nicely!

****** hell a fair bit to do then . I better get cracking

Thanks for the replies

Anyone tried the CTS Turbo DV - not sure if it's available here as I can only see US reviews ...

It "looks" ok,and no reason to assume it won't be,but the price by the time it gets over here will be a little steep for what it is.

Is it just this vacuum pipe I need to blank off? The one that connects to the pcv?

You can remove that adapter if you're not runing anything else from there, and reconnect pcv pipe to the intake manifold.
Hope your pcv is working good, as lots of us had to change it for newer revision, or replaced it with pcv delete / catch can.

All sorted now! Also I've just changed my pcv to the latest revision so that's all good and working
