Right, i know nothing at all about B5's so which engine package would be suited for a super light weight quattro track car. Did consider an S4 but thats a lot of weight forward of the front axle...

Building the car isnt a problem at all. Neither is grp & carbon panels/aerokit... the issue is merely knowing what petrol engines were fitted into manual quattro cars.
 
What kind of reliable power can you get out them? Thats a small engine in large car with more transmission loss then its FWD brother :/

I also have an old 5lb Wizard of Nos direct port kit knocking about from a previous car that i could chuck on for a laught too.
 
My track car is an S4 shell with a 1.8T engine. at the time TQS's were rare and expensive, and i ended up with an S4 which had been stripped for parts. So bought a donor 1.8T and fitted the engine and a quattro gearbox i happened to have spare. 1.8T quattros exist and are getting pretty cheap these days for a slightly rough one. They're still rare though, only about 500 left.

Power from a standard 1.8T engine is about 200hp with a remap. Plenty to get you started. My cars been on the scales at 1250kgs, and performs similarly to a clio 172 in terms of accelleration with the stock 180hp tune.

Avoid the V6 quattros, they're big and heavy, dont make much power and have no tuning options.

Lots of folk build a track car and want 400hp or something stupid, IMO its far better to have a sensible power level and actually get used to driving it, and slowly work your way up. 200hp in a stripped B5 is plenty. Not only that, but more power just means the track days cost more. You use more fuel, you end up toasting the brakes and need upgrades, you use more tyres etc etc.
 
Im no stranger at all to track days, just a stranger to racing Audis lol

Don't know much about these cars but a built 1.8t with a gtx2867r or gt2871r would smash 300bhp I'd of thought.
 
You can smash 300bhp with a decent hybrid. 2.0t weren't offered in b5 and b6. You would have to look at b7 with this engine. 1.8t has plenty of potential, just depends how much money you want to throw at it. Ripping the interior out makes a big weight difference.
 
Have to echo what Aragorn said. I ran my 190bhp FWD B5 for several years and pushed many allegedly faster cars round.

Currently knocking around the 300bhp mark and on track it was enough for me to chase down and badger a stage 3 Escort Cosworth for 8 laps.
 
As with all the track cars ive built over the years every ounce of interior will come out along with all uneeded metalwork.

Raise all 4 suspenion turrets by an inch toget it sitting lovely & low. Full underfloor aero and grp body panels etc.

Just pondering engine options really.
 
Any pics of your previous projects? Sound interesting.

I remember seeing a great b5 trackcar build on vwvortex and the chap was from the uk. Can't find it now though.
 
Havent any pics to hand im afraid as im on my phone (work away from home alot).

Been doing track days on an off for around 10 years with a couple of friends of mine. One uses 3.2 V6 engined Nova with nitrous, the other a BMW 328 Compact. Few other friends have Nova Turbos, RST's & Evos.
