Carista App

I tend to agree with that though I'd expect leaving the lights on "auto" would sort that with my cars. I still need to buy the "in app" upgrade, need phone to be "happy" and stop complaining about getting stuck "updating icloud settings" before paying for that upgrade!
It's those in between times when your never quite sure if he Auto lights have worked in rain or mist or dusk.

Rear drl would be great for the times when there is heavy spray on the road but light enough for it not to put the lights on.

What is the cheapest way I can get this up and running ? I have an iPhone :-( what android you running them on guys ?
And as I asked above what cars will it mod ?

Thanks,

Si

You get the app on iPhone just buy a obd elm327 and purchase the app. Will be about £25 all in.

You can get them on eBay for about £8-£10. I'm sure there will be stuff you can do on your c6, the compatible car list is quite long lol.

I use iPhone and the full Carista app with a dongle from Amazon, phone costs aside it cost me almost £27 all in and works very very well.

One of the things I purchased it all for was the rear light DRL's, I can't believe legislation hasn't been changed yet; its a legal requirement in most of mainland Europe for both front and rear to have DRL's hence the functionality within the car's system.

I also managed to make loads of changes to the wife's BMW X5 (E70) including the rear DRL's.

If you are jailbroken you can crack the in app purchase, did it on my ipad, i had already paid for it on the iphone

Ok cool just downloaded the app I will look about for an OBD .
Don't think there is much I can do to my C6 but more for the wife's B8

On the new update log they claim to have added "needle sweep, seatbelt beep, etc" for the C6

It's free until you start tweaking then it's £15
Regarding a dongle, well that is hit and miss weather you get a good one

Ok thanks for the reply mate , I assume then once I start to want to enable needle sweep or something I would have to pay to upgrade , does it prompt you too when your using it ?
Anyone got any links to a good wireless OBD you used for your iPhone ?

Thanks,

Si

Yeah it does tell you once you start to use it, do not worry it is a very safe robust app. Regarding the dongle, I got a cheap one off ebay, others said it may work, waited 3 days to arrive, it didn't, others said try this one, try that one etc and I couldn't be ***** to experiment and wait so bought the genuine carista dongle from Amazon, that was guaranteed to work with both android and I phone!
Slightly more expensive at £30 but I believe in what you pay! (others will testify)
It's all personal preference really

needle sweep is only available on facelift C6 clusters (2009 onwards)

I think depending on model the available modifications are various depending on model, however, carista is always being updated.
Anyone with your particular model will be able to shed more light on the needle sweep.
If not available now, it is highly likely it will be in the future if possible.
It's a great thing to have imo

I agree, I wanted something that would work without spending days/weeks trying the next cheap one, the real thing is not very manly though - ie white, and what is the folding hook on the retail packaging for?? Strange thing is, the blurb, I think, said that it was WiFi for iphone and Bluetooth for Android - not true, Bluetooth for both which keeps the WiFi free for phone to connect to outside world. As far as updating when new stuff is added, maybe you end up handing over your email address during the upgrade and that would let them hand you out alerts. With VCDS, it seems to look for current latest issue and warn you when you go to launch it if there is a newer version available to the version you currently have.

Issue with DRLs without rears "on" in rain/heavy spray - is there not an option, maybe hidden, that switches the auto lights on always in rain?

Been checking for updates over the last few weeks but still no more from carista for the B8 or C6 . I sent them debug data hopefully they will be able to sort out some more mods soon,
Really great little tool well worth the money so far

Yes, I was kind of expecting regular updates - as VCDS does, basically as "things" move on, it is very handy for doing "customise" stuff and some OBD2 engine fault codes, ie to have with you at all times, as opposed to your VCDS and lap//net computer which I mainly keep at home for serious stuff. One thing that concerns me is the "cop out" statement for all models it claims to cover, I am looking after a late 2009 Ibiza with the old 1.4 16V engine, Carista can scan that car okay - except it can't communicate with the engine controller or the ABS controller - VCDS can do that with that car, seems a lot more work needing to be done that Carista will probably walk away from and concentrate on what they have completed so far.

Oh, and Carista gets quite a few of the options in my early 2011 B8 S4 wrong, ie disabled instead of enabled, it works okay on customising the late 2009 Ibiza, but so far, nothing for customising wife's August 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110 SEL - all I get there is "door open indication - close door and try again" - which I suspect is "sorry can't work with that car yet"!

Edit:- I did send them a problem email due to having trouble using it initially, luckily I sorted that out as I got "zip" back from Carista!

Nice write up mate, my son tried it on his A3 8V but no customisations avail. Wife's B8 done a couple like needle sweep and drl etc. A bit disappointed with stuff I can do on my 2007 C6 allroad but at least I managed to get the navi disc to eject now so I could update it,
Hope Carista update them all soon

I'm still hopeful Carista will introduce the option to switch the stop/start default setting to "off".

Carista is a bit cheaper then VCDS though.......;)

Of course, but what annoys me is the fuzzy way the Carista website text covers which models it covers, and what it covers for which variants of which models, sounds good and obvious before you buy it - then you discover the truth, Carista should try harder seeing as it claims a lot. I'm happy enough that I've bought it, but it only shows its weakness when you have connected it to a few different cars. All "players" in this sector should be able to declare that their kit can carry out OBD2 (or EOBD) for all post 19?? cars and deeper/better scanning for certain specific marques, then add models that can be customised - that is all, with time Carista might get where it claims to be wrt European cars.

i just purchased a BT dongle and downloaded the app. The diagnostic works and i can get real time data from Torque etc but when i click on the customise section i get: "your OBD bluetooth device is defective. Checking for generic obd2 faults may work but you cannot use customizations in the Carista with this device.

I havent purchased the software yet and i bought the dongle via the link to amazon from the Carista page.

Car is a B8.5 S4.

Any ideas?

This was the one i bought: Amazon product

I meant info from the Torque app, not Carista.

Engine wasnt running when i got the message, just ignition on.

The one I linked to when I started this thread works for me. Best thing I have used it for is in replacing rear brake pads. Having the ability to put electronic brake into service mode saved me a packet in garage fees! Glad I started this post!

Upgrade to a pro version this afternoon but I can't see the option for put electronic brake into service mode, where can I find this option, anyone?

I contacted Carista and they sorted it from memory, was last year.

Well that sounds a bit annoying!! (seem to remember buying a VAG connector that looked right but was about four times the size needed once, so yes mistakes are very easy to make!)
So, where next time, the horribly expensive Carista one that guarantees to work? (which is what I did and glad I did).

Nah, gone for another cheap one, glutton for punishment :) Worst comes to it there's a guy i work with that could do it for me, but he works in the office and I don't.

Is there anyone in Northern Ireland that has one of these and ill throw them a few pound for doing it?

Hi,
I have emailed tech support they have provided me with the beta version which have the option.

So did you get the impression that they are going to include that in the next update? I had a feeling that this was available in an early Beta version - ie well before I downloaded my app from the Apple store.

Hi
I have also emailed and been given the beta version which does both EPB and service reset
The down side is that every time you use these options it needs a payment of £4.99
