8V RS3 367PS Tuning from DTUK and DTE

Yup it takes about 10 mins to fit one to the 2.0 tfsi in the s3 /R and even less for the new rs3.

so what part does the DTUK box intercept and adjust?

Im keen to understand how far it goes.
does it just increase the boost pressure and lets the ECU to the rest with the fuelling etc? or does it also have to fudge the injectors into pumping more fuel in? and more?

And on from that, would Audi not be able to see via the ECU (if they were checking for say a blown engine) that the car had been over boosting for some time?

2 boost sensors plus cam position sensor

Interesting as afr is of paramount importance when spiking these sensors with a third party box

Gents, I am a new member... having come from an A45 with stage 2 tune...This car is a revelation... I find it funny that there are some A45 fan boys in here tooting their horn... re some video of a beta Stage 1 RS3... when there are plenty videos of Golf R stage 2s leaving the same A45 behind... pretty sure its pie in the sky. I also feel like the DTUK headline numbers are conservative... considering the stock car put out 290-300bhp at the wheels, equating to 390bhp at the fly... and the stage 1 does around 350bhp atws... then its putting out alot more than 410bhp at the fly...

I am currently testing an ABT unit in my car and its a very mild tune at best... having driven APR tuned TTRSs... it basically feels like a slightly more aggressive stock map, with minimal torque gains and alittle more in the top end... stressing a little. Half the time I swear it is stock.

Not sure if you guys read this post:

So the DTUK car is making 428.9ps or 349.8 at the wheels... the stock car made 293bhp... that is a HUGE difference, and DTUK are simply publishing their official figures in a normalized fashion, ie, taking the 386ps stock dyno figures back to 362bhp quoted figures and showing the % delta... so its not a 19bhp change, its like a 45bhp change...that is the where 409bhp comes from...its theoretical.

"The Green line at the bottom is calculated transmission loss which as you can see gets quite large as RPM increases it's calculated 79.1 PS loss at 5840 RPM which is where max power is seen.
The orange line running through the middle is torque in NM.
The blue line is power measured at the wheel and the red line is corrected calculated flywheel hp.
The red line is the result of the blue line plus the green line and it is then corrected for standard temperature and pressure.
Thats why there are all the temperature and pressure readings in the bottom right of the diagram.
At 5840 RPM the measured power was 349.8 PS and the calculated transmission loss 79.1 PS so 349.8 + 79.1 = 428.9 PS
The correction is done according to 80/1269/EEC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directive_80/1269/EEC

iso-1585-jpg.73768

As cars make more power as pressure increases and temperature decreases you need to correct the results given to a standard temperature and pressure and in this case that is 1000 hpa and 24.85 degrees C.
As the measurement was done somewhere cold the intake air temp was only 9.4 degrees and the ambient 14.2 and pressure was above 1000 hpa the measured value is reduced to the corrected or normalised 409.8PS which is actually 403.4 bhp .
This appears to be referenced against the standard cars 367PS which is 362 bhp.
So the tuning box is adding in this case 41.4 BHP at the peak about 11.5 % extra .
But as stated above this seems not to be with the box in the max mode so who knows how much that is ? ."

It would be interesting driving a race between these tuned cars to see which numbers are correct and if they delivers as what is expected?

haha I can assure you, the DTUK car would kick my cars *** with the ABT tune... im taking it out asap.

we've had a cripple asking us about ignition temps once the box is installed, so as requested

here is then info from DTE. Again as with all info posted online this info relates to when the box is set to map 1 zero which is our recommended setting.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6imx2yj9vcyhac2/audi RS3 SENT ignition temps.pdf?dl=0

Please note the different scaling on the ignition curve.

Take on average we have a different of around 2-3 degree.

Sincerely,

I may be in for 1 as well if it's still holding back after I change the crappy 95ron fuel Audi filled to the brim :(

Thanks for link, I will be doing this

I hear that after first 1k miles the engine mode changes, is that right? Something about the Rev range etc

I am still only about 600

I don't have a clue on that mate but never heard of anything like that and I have done loads of research on running it in... Mine is holding back! Few flat spots but hoping it's due to the crappy 95ron fuel they put in it!

Sorry guys can someone tell me what bhp extra u get from the dtuk box? Saying My car is dyno at 390bhp stock. What extra bhp would I get on top? 20bhp? Making it 410? Been doing loads of research and numbers all over the place! Even seen a post saying his stock did 0-60 in 3.6!

It's more about torque than bhp, need to look at the area under the curve as they say!

TX.

Not clued up with all this curves maps ect lol

All I want really is an improved mid range but want to feel the difference!

Guys,

its really simple... DTUK got 295bhp at the wheels for the stock car... which they have equated to 385bhp at the flywheel.
They then got 345bhp at the wheels for their stage 1 ( preset map 1,0)... thats a 50bhp wheel difference.

To me the power at the engine is pie in the sky, as you can vary your corrections and loss calculations all you want... but using the same
losses, 345bhp equates to something between 430-440bhp at the flywheel.

Look at the graph, they are showing Schleppleistung or drive train loss in the stock car to be 83kw... vs 58kw in the tuned car... it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that its not apples vs apples...and the tuned car is making a **** tonne more power.

I finally understand it all now lol. Hence i am ordering 1 today!! I bet most other guys are also scratching there heads when they research it and see stock getting 390 and with box 410. But forget that figure!

Will post feedback on what I think sometime next week when have tested the box personally ;)

Right guys!

I got my dtuk box on sat and it went straight on! Preset setting.

Now keeping it simple. It's fu*kin rapid! The pull is constant!!! Unlike before! What I didn't like about the 8v before putting this box on was the mid range pulling powder it felt so flat from 2nd-4th gear like when the turbo kick in you feel it pull then go flat! Witch shouldn't happen on a car like this the 8p didn't even feel like that! But now that flatness has gone! It constantly pulls feel sucking back in the seat! A couple mates had a quick blast who also wasn't inpressed with the 8v power after taking mine out the other day. But now saying this is what it should feel like standard!

So imo the box is well worth the money loads faster! Pulls like a train.

Now the only thing left that I don't like about the 8v is the gearbox.....where you feel the car jerk witch makes you jerk forward when changing gear worse going from 2nd to 3rd. This is when your flooring it. In between them gears your loosing boost for like 1second while it's changing gear hence the jerk then the power kicks back in u suck back in the seat....Obviously you hardly notice this when driving normal. But this is another mistake from Audi on the gearbox side of things imo as same the 8p never had That problem was smooth all way through gears when flooring it.... I think u all no what I mean to the guys who do give it some!

But happy enough now I have the dtuk box on it.

I think I'm going to have to take the plunge. I can't resist it much longer

Hey mate,

Good to hear your happy too...

funnilly enough when I first installed mine, I ran it on preset for a few kays, then whacked it over to 1,2 as it felt more aggressive and seemed to make the box learn quicker... then after 100km I switched back to preset, and now it feels amazing...

I had the gearbox jerkyness initially, but I feel its gone now as the car has to adapt.

Im running preset now, and its properly quicker... I did 3.60 secs 0-100 with a crap 1.95 60 ft... I have done a 1.8 60 ft... so on a good day, id say 3.5 to 100km/h is doable... by comparison, stock I was doing like 4.0-4.2 with no rollout.

Sweet! Thanks mate!
Did you put your box on map 1 and boost 2 for 100km correct? Then back to preset setting. Will try that see if gets even better lol

I am hoping the jerky box will go away once done more miles! As its only done 350miles up to now! So will give it time!

But you was right about the mid range pull its so much better it's crazy!

I'm now at 975 miles and have had the box sitting at home for two weekends now - very frustrating but as she hits 1k tonight then once I'm home I will be hoping her up.

Just out of interest did you guys cable tie any of the leads or the unit itself into position of do they sit ok? Any tips appreciated.

Stop !!!! Car not even arrived and thinking about one of these....

Why wait for 1000 miles I put mine on at 300miles ignore all that running in stuff! It's bs. The guys who deliver these cars rag the crap out of them. Plus tech guy at Audi said to me direct do u he'll have to run them in.

I cable tied the box only to the back of the air filter bracket nice spare hole for it. Just the 1 cable stop it falling down..

Spin. If your like me and not happy with the flat pull you get from it. Infact shocked and if i had test drove 1 before hand I prob wouldn't of even got 1 then a guarantee you Gona want 1 of these boxes.. Just makes it feel like What it's ment to feel like

Call me old fashioned (or even sexist) but I like to get to know her first....treat her to a few bottles of posh nitro....a few respectful dates so we both get to know each other and then when she is fully warmed up and the time is right it's time to suggest the next stage and give her some wellie. Then when you need sometime to spice things up a little further it's time to visit the DTUK shop and pick up a box from the top shelf

....then again you are probably right

Nah go for glory first date unless you are planning on a long term relationship then I guess its best to take your time... :)

Spin, the standard car is mental. I've owned and driven plenty of quick cars and the RS3 is right up there. Kilo must have had a Friday afternoon car ;)

TX.

Guys,

Interestingly, I had an A45 before the RS3, and it felt completely flat stock... to the point of questioning its power...

When I drove the RS3 stock, it felt pretty impressive in my opinion...yeh I hear you re the "linear" feel in the mid range compared to the old one... however it has better top end zing compared to the old one...so it is considerably quicker.

I think mid range torque can make a car feel quicker than it actually is... considering that guy Michael with the blue 8v RS3 has already run a 12.xx to 200km/h in his stage 1, you can see that this car is getting into the serious end of town with just a re tune.

Lol my Friday-Sunday car sits in the corner of my drive just waiting! ;)

Ye the top end on the 8v is way better than the 8p all day.. I just felt the constant pull in the 8p 0-100. And felt smooth! Wish I had put a box on that now to see what it would be like lol.

The pull in the 8v is abit flat stock 0-80ish. But after there is pulls!!! And even better with the box

The a45 is strange! My sis has 1. They don't have any pull to it and makes you think it's slow! But when had a race with my 8p witch feels! tons faster they had me just!! Don't understand why there is no pull to them would put people off after test driving surely!

Will a car equipped with one of these DTUK boxes stand regular heavy track day sessions?

I would assume they were mapped in such a way there was still a healthy margin of safety build in for the engine and that the normal protection features of the OEM ECU would overrule high temp and engine knock conditions?

I'm now at 975 miles and have had the box sitting at home for two weekends now - very frustrating but as she hits 1k tonight then once I'm home I will be hooking her up.

At last got round to fitting my box....its been a long time coming but these last few nights the weather has been wet and wild up in Sunny Glasgow!

Anyway took about 10 mins to understand the instructions and another 10 to fit. I used a few cable to keep everything neat and in place so as cakes not able to freely move to a hot part of the engine. I will be keeping a pair of snips in glove box for simple removal if needed.

So I've now got 1,050 miles on the clock with a good 50 pushing her to her limits in stock. I would say generally she feels quick - because they simply are fast hatches - and probably slightly up on 8P mk1 although I'm now biased of course. I would say though that my mk1 MTM Stage 1 felt quicker and faster in mid range boost although difficult to compare in your head....

Anyway did a few stock laps in mk 2 before setting up DTUK box. Then similar lap route in 'mapped' mode. Stuck with recommended map and haven't touched any settings. For those considering this warranty safe option then the gains are very noticeable. Every gear feels just that little bit quicker all round but collectively transforms the car to feel what I image going from an RS4 to RS6 must feel like. Now seriously quick indeed and the mid range for me what the biggest gain - particularly in 3rd which takes you in excess of 80 and more than enough for our roads.

Makes the car feel much more confident and closer to some of the serious big boys!

Overall delighted and only tested for 15 mins with no launches at all yet, so lots more smiles to come and I will be sure to add my comments further but thought worth sharing my initial reactions so far.

Need to get her on the rollers sometime soon...anyone recommend anyone good in Glasgow area?

Cheers.
