Yesterday driving the A3 up a country road - 3rd gear, 4500rpm ish and....clunk followed by power loss. Eased off for a while tried again and nothing.

Haven't plugged VCDS in yet - but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and whether it is a "simple" fix.

No errors on dash. 2006 A3 2.0T - quattro.

Cheers.

Is the car in limp mode then? It's not clear when you say 'eased off for a while tried again and nothing' - tried what?

Pure guesswork without VCDS so mine would be turbo has gone.

Nope, not in limp home mode.
Eased off and tried to replicate the clunk and loss of power - but was fine. Apparently done it a few times.

Will scan when the weather improves and see what it reveals.

Sounds like the ignition system had a hiccup. If it were a major mechanical breakage the problem would be there all the time.

Right then - scanned the car. I have a few errors.

1. Engine Speed Sensor - G28. P0321 Implausible Signal.
2. EVAP Emission Control Sys - P0441 Incorrect Flow
3. Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) - P2261 Mechanical Malfunction

Number one is probably related to the clunk and loss of power. How easy to replace, plug and play ?

Two and Three I'm unsure, possibly related ?

Yep, will need a new diverter valve - looks a pain to do.

Does anyone know whereabouts the G28 is ? Searched tinterweb but they are all for diesel Skodas - haven't seen anything relating to the 2.0T petrol.

Sounds like the turbo divert valve has a split and when you put your foot down its boost presure when you put your foot down opens the split. Replace with GFB DV+ or stay OEM and the new revised unit that is now where near as good as the GFB. Bit difficult to get to on your car as its under the front off side wheel, so you will need to jack car, remove wheel to see under car, see here. its a golf GTi but same engine. How to change a diverter valve on a vw 2.0t fsi engine - YouTube
Or the PCV. To check take out dip stick with engine running, if the engine starts to hunt then its okay, if it doesnt then you need a new pcv.

That makes sense - probably why the speed sensor has been triggered as well ?
Will order a genuine one - not too keen on the GFB price :wink new:

£98.70, fit and forget, you never need to change again, money well spent in my opinion, especially if you go for a remap.

Btw it's a right b****h to change the diverter valves on quattros, urs is same as mine and was a struggle even on ramp.

Right then - replaced the diverter valve same problem :sadlike: the valve that came off was a rev C and looked ok. I've replaced with a rev D.
What I did notice was quite a bit of oil in there when I removed the valve.

Scanned and no errors logged. Presuming this could be a bit more serious......turbo ?
