hi folks i think ive got a problem with my antenna amp. i am loosing radio when driving around town. are these a thing to fail. i have a none oem headunit. and where is this unit located, so i can check to see if i have a power supply to it.
thanks all

Most who have changed to non OEM head units suffer with signal loss, I just use my digital radio on my phone via Bluetooth. What model car do you have as the signal amps are behind the N/S boot trim on the Avant and as far as I remember in the boot on a cabby, can't comment on saloon though.

hi mate, thank you for your reply. this has only just started was ok when i got the car. mine is a b6 saloon

Ah ok, I have no knowledge of the saloon I'm afraid, I'm sure someone will be along soon more familiar with the saloon.

When I fitted my JVC head unit the reception was crap. I think all the suppression gizmos were inside the original head unit. I fitted a power filter to the 12v supply and a powered antenna filter and all bought from Halfords. The reception is now easily as good as the original set up, if not better, but that could just be the infinitely better sound!!

Sorry mate no, the Halfords website is as much use as the children they employ at weekends.

Just pop in (during the week lol) and explain you have poor frequency modulation reception and you have been advised a power antenna filter will help (make sure it has the correct connectors). Also you need an inline 12 volt power filter suppressor.

These items are off the shelf in the sounds dept. Good luck dude!

The aerial amp on the saloon is behind the plastic trim just above the rear screen. They have a habit of cracking and losing radio reception. They can usually be repaired easily with a bulldog clip.

With the radio on, press the amp in various places until the radio suddenly comes on. Then place the bulldog clip on this spot to keep the pressure applied. Job done!

Took me 15mins and radio still working perfectly months later. Well worth a try before spending anything at halfords.

Absolutely mate but fitting a powered antenna booster where it plugs into the head unit overcomes the intermittent problems with the factory fitted gizmo.
