Alright peeps, I have been using meguires car shampoos for years now and love them however what car shampoos do people use? Not looking at mega expensive things but just wondering!

Predominately used Chemical Guy shampoos so far (Citrus wash and gloss, Maxi Suds and Honey Dew Snow Foam). Just bought a bottle of Krystal Kleen Detail Blizzard Snow foam as I heard good things and was cheap in comparison. Know its a snow foam but I use it as shampoo as well :)

I have snow foam as well but just wondered what shampoo. I have just ordered meguires nxt shampoo. Usually use gold class but decided on a change

Snow foam and dodo juice basics of bling

Got a snow foam lance for Christmas but not had chance to try it yet. Dying to use it lol

Got a snow foam lance as well but neighbour does night shifts 4 times every week so don't use p/washer much.
Got Autoglym , Zymol , Mer and meguires shampoo though .

I have mer polish had it ages but just bought "capped in America" from the wax pack, reads well so thought would give it a go. But expensive (for me anyway).

Basically you don't want to get caught up with dilution rates. For bang for your buck, you'll want to go with Car Chem 1900:1 Shampoo.

I use the auto finesse lather. Find it very slick on the surface

I've converted over to auto finesse lather from Meg's gold class.

What shampoo would you guys n gyals use if you wanted to strip everything back, so all the polish and wax you shoved on to winter proof you wanted to get rid of in spring so was working purely on top coat when you was getting your machine ready for those glorious summer months we are due?

No shampoo will remove that. The wax bonds to the paintwork. The only proper way is to remove it via machine polisher or wait until the wax wears off.

I don't see it now but maybe this is it:

Halfords sell it so could always pop in and read the bottle?

A high concentration of a citrus based shampoo will probably do the trick. Theres some alkaline based ones from KKD, like Blizzard, that when used at high concentration can strip the LSP. Probably best to give the whole paint work a wipe down with a panel wipe or eraser to ensure a completely clean surface.

I think you are referring to a ceramic...any wax can be easily stripped with a high concentration of shampoo that isn't PH neutral...

This is not a reflection of me, Chemical Guys Mr Pink!!!

I'm not. The only proper way it can be removed is machine polishing. People think fairy liquid removes wax, it doesn't.

I stand corrected. Funny how these myths become ingrained in 'common knowledge'...or in this case false knowledge...

Yeah, it's crazy. A lot of guides, tutorials and such would have you to lead to believe that it removes it. It can be confusing because the fairy liquid actually forms a thin layer over your wax giving the impression that there's no wax.

Exactly...there so much marketing behind everything that I sometimes forget to stand back and look at the evidence...like the physics behind grit guards, the use of buckets rather than rinsing the mitt using a hose with pressure, the actual effect of detail sprays or more expensive waxes...the results are so subjective that its difficult to ascertain whether it actually does anything or not...obviously not saying its all BS, but it certainly takes a lot to work out what is effective and what is just plain rubbish!

This is spot on, now a days all you need is good marketing rather than the actual product. Most products that are developed well will be hidden in the current market if they have poor marketing skills. A few "higher end" companies out there and one similar to a country specifically is a prime example of it.

I think I remember reading a thread on the company you are referring to!

Something about a customer receiving a bottle from them that actually had a label from a cheaper company, indicating the product was identical, but slapped on a different label with a higher price tag...?

Might indeed be the one. I'm not here to point fingers but some of the schemes in the detailing industry are crazy.

Born to be mild. Have to remember not to drink it. Smells sooo good!

So buying g3 prep shampoo not worth it if i wanted to go all the way back to "blank canvas"?

So shampoos I like. Britemax Cleanmax - gives a great finish. For total cheating I love Chemical Guys Glossworkz shampoo. Gives a lovely gloss which is great for the lazy man. Sorry @Bristle Hound I realise it's full of cheat gloss agents but it doesn't half make the family transport look bling. :)

No, there is no "real" way other than machine polishing.

If it needs a full decon, would covering it in a tar remover, then iron X then a clay bar work? Mine didn't have anything applied but I used a high concentration of an alkaline snow foam, KKD tar remover and iron rain, followed by clay bar to try and remove as much as possible....

Also machine polished, but that's beside the point :p

I recently bought and used meguires NXT car shampoo and got a say I'm very impressed, suds up well and after drying off had a much shinier finish than the meguires gold class I normally use

I use the G3 prep shampoo as part of a fresh Detail. Don't use it as a stand alone but seems to strip alot of old products IMO

@scotty76 - TBH I have almost finished a bottle of Britemax CleanMax myself. Great winter shampoo for me
Tried CG Glossworkz & never really got on with it
Tried all 3 versions of AF Lather & found them all rubbish
Loved Dodo BTBM. Smell great too
Still keep coming back to my 3 flavours of CarChem 1900:1 shampoo

Still got this one to try -

As always, just my opinion of course ... :whistle2: :D

PS Autobrite Banana Gloss is my fave shampoo with all the added gloss enhancers & polymers

I think we're missing something here. Unless you're applying a ceramic coating @moorzy then it won't be a massive problem. Strong shampoo mix and clay bar or mitt is good prep for most things. It won't get everything off but it's only relatively recently us punters have had machine polishers. And we were all fine.
