Hi all

1st post on here...

I have a Audi A3 TDi Quattro 2006 that has been coming up with an ESP fault recently. Hoping it was an ABS sensor as was only happening when I hit the brakes and predominately in the wet.

I had the car at a local Audi specialist today and they have said that the Haldex control module is throwing up the fault and requires to be replaced...quoted £950 for a new unit fitted...The garage is going to try and source a second hand unit.

I have a friend with a VAGCOM so will get the actual fault codes tomorrow and hopefully a part number. Does anyone know where I can source a recon unit from?

Any other advice on this would be welcome...

Cheers
Andy

I had mine refurbished by Auto Fault Finder.
They fail due to water ingress into the unit.

Mine was repaired about 10 months ago and has been faultless since. I was also assured that their sealing method was better than factory, and the unit wouldn't fail again.

I took mine off myself (two connectors and two bolts) and sent it to them. They repaired it the day they received it. Rang me to run through what they'd done, and sent it back to me on next day postage.
The disadvantage being you can't use your car with it removed. I sent it too them before I went on holiday to get around this.

Cost me about £120

The garage I bought my car from paid 800 quid for the unit itself and 100 for fitting, So 900 quid total. 950 sounds about right for the item.

+1 for auto fault finder. I took my car there and saw the sealing process. Much better than OEM

Bookmarked them guys. Maybe the preventative treatment could save a lot of hassle in the future.

Yeah I think so. My preventative measure for it not happening again was getting rid of my S3 and getting my GTD but thats another story lol.

Thanks for the replies. I had looked at the auto fault finder website but wasn't sure as they seemed to be the only company to do that. Will give them a call tomorrow.

I called TPS today and was quoted £860 (inc VAT) but they wouldn't give me the part no. I have also been looking at getting a second hand unit, just need to confirm the part no.

Is there different control units for diesel and petrol cars? i.e. if I buy a full diff from a petrol will the haldex unit be the same on mine.
Is the part number I have highlighted below in bold from the vagcom output the part I am after?

So connected the vagcom today (might have to purchase one of those...) below and the faults that were listed.

You have the same fault codes mine threw up before I had my unit repaired.

The price sounds very similar to what my main dealer quoted me. In the end I opted to have mine repaired as the cost for a new one was very high, and sourcing a second hand unit would mean it would be a similar age. Both I was told would only be a matter of time until they failed.
AFF did a very good job of convincing me it would seem!

They're both gen 2 Haldex controllers.
A quick bit of reading says the F was superceded in June 2007 with the L unit.

I was told you can fit a newer unit (still a gen 2)but not an older unit than the one installed on your car. Not sure if this is true though.
