It's time for some new brake pads on my 1.8TQS saloon. The stock disks and calipers are being kept so it's just the pads and possibly some SS hoses that I'll get.

A brief search on here would suggest Ferodo DS2500 or Mintex M1144 pads are a good upgrade.

However, I'm struggling to locate somewhere online that'll sell them for the TQS. Ideally I want to get everything from one place as opposed to ordering from the world and his wife. I haven't phones around yet but wondered where is best? Somewhere near sunny Glasgow would be even better but not critical.

Thanks

Ross

HEL for the brake hoses and ebay for the pads i'd imagine. The S4 uses the same pipes if your struggling for a specific listing for the TQS.

You'll probably end up getting ****** about with the hoses, loads of companies have the wrong patterns on file for the quattro B5's for some reason, so you might have some back and forwards if they send you the wrong ones. I've got the dimensions of the correct hoses somewhere that might help ensure you get the right ones.

Thanks Aragorn

So after calling a few people today (Demon Tweeks, Larkspeed etc) they are all saying that they have a front DS2500 pad but cannot trace anything for the rear pad.

Can anyone shed some light on the correct pad part No or point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I am not sure I would bother with uprated pads for the rear again.

I can echo the hose issue as I bought some years ago and waited ages to fit them. Turned out they were the wrong ones so only 2 of the lines fitted on the front. Did not bother to replace the others but may look to do it in the future.

Agreed.

I've never had an issue with standard road pads, even tracked my old TQS on them and they were fine for a good few laps.

Put Yellowstuff on the Avant this time around and TBH i'm not that impressed. I need to take the car out and give them a good trashing to see if they get any better, but normal driving they seem to have a split personality sometimes having a nice crisp initial bite and other times feeling spongy and ineffective.

It'll be used for fast road driving...I'm not track day driver.

What I'm really trying to do is get rid of the horrible spongy feel which is less than confidence inspiring. I'll be changing the fluid & the brake lines to braided hoses so I'm sure that'll help a little but a pad that gives me some confidence whilst stoping me quicker than the stock stuff is the real aim. I want to drive in a spirited way but not with the 'oh crap...this isn't fun if I have to stop quickly' kind of way.

Brake pad suggestions on a post card please.

Yellowstuff feel weird on my brembos as well. Lasted two trackdays so far and still quite a bit of it left though.

Spongy pedal would lead me to think they need a flush through with fresh DOT4 and a proper bleed. I use Brembo pads from nextdaybrakes. These have been used on and off track. A nice cheap upgrade us the 312mm conversion which makes a big difference.

Brake related but I have an issue where the inside of my discs will not clean up at all. Fronts they are clean and zero rust, rears I get an advisory every year and have for about the past 4 years. Looking last week they are only clean about an inch. Gradually getting worse each year. I have taken the caliper and carrier off numerous times to make sure the pad is moving and not sticking on the carrier.

Thinking now about trying some new discs and pads as cleaning the carrier with a wire brush and file made no difference.

The car does sit for weeks on end which has not helped!

Currently on 312mm carriers, DS2500 pads and plain pagid or brembo discs I think. Have tried a few decent stops to try and clean them but makes next to no difference.

Yeh, but all i changed was the disks and pads. Hydraulics werent touched.

Probably should have saved my money and just fitted standard road pads. Maybe they just need bedded in properly, as the ***** weather means i've never had a chance to go give them a roasting, but thus far i cant recommend them.

Once the disk gets like that they wont clean up.

The rough lip just eats the pads away and the pads end up all grooved.

Replacing the disks is the only way to fix it.

I was referring to the OP regarding to spongy feel. I know your issue has been discussed and it leaves me puzzled how it has,as you say, a split personality. Cars can certainly be funny things
