a little new year catch up of the last week of adventures.
I met up with Pierre and Toby just like we did last year on the moors, the weather was horrific, but the company and cars more than made up for it.
Pierres TT looking as immaculate as ever, and I finally got to see Tobys Sylva Pheonix for the first time after seeing a load of pics. It didn't disappoint either, 160bhp from an R1 engine, 6 speed sequential dog box, 420kg, and absolutely gorgeous!
We had a good little blast over the moors, and a pub lunch, but really it was too wet and miserable for the Sylva and Toby, having no windscreen or cover!
I had a sit in it, and being 6'2" I'm not sure I could ever drive it. I'd love to try one day, but it means moving the whole pedal box as the seats are fixed!
Pierre got a great shot as we were leaving the pub:
2 incredibly different routes to remarkably similar outcomes!
On Wednesday Dad and I took a drive out to see Phil at Millers Motor Services:
We stood around, chatted, drank coffee, and generally pestered Phil whilst be worked, which somehow still didn't stop him from doing the cambelts, water pump, and a PCV replacement on Mums Polo in record time! he found when he stripped it down that not only was the crank / cam timing a tooth out, but the cam - cam timing was out also!
New belts on, and the polo goes MUCH better - I did say it felt a bit flat before Dad
The weather was absolutely horrendous, but it did at least give me a chance to take a picture where the car looks shiney, no polish required
Whilst discussing how horrid the weather was, we got onto the topic of garage / workshop heaters. Phil has a parafin / diesel space heater which worked really well.
When asked why he used this instead of the normal gas heater, he said that he had an old gas heater he didn't use any more, because it was too expensive to run in such a big unit.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...................
Well, it is christmas!
What a legend Phil is!
We took it home, plugged it, hooked it up to an old gas bottle, and pressed ignite. it works perfectly, and chucks out some SERIOUS heat! Massive thanks to Phil for that, it should really help with motivation to go and work on the car on the cold winter evenings!
Dad and I had a good drive home despite the awful weather, the car is just so driveable now with the progressive mapping.
I did stop to take a picture on the way home overlooking the sea to show just how rough it was, but it wasn't really come out in the background!
Then we headed home for our own little christmas dinner seeing as I wasn't with Mum and Dad for Christmas.
Looking around Mum and Dads, I found this, showing where it all began around 19 years ago now!
That's me in the blue OMP suit bottom right holding the flag, aged 12, and aged 10 in the middle picture infront of my Mitsubishi 1.2 Colt on the evening of my first ever race meeting, 2 trophies from my first 2 races!
New years eve I went up onto the moors again for a drive with
@Rainbird @RobinJI , and
@craigt1985. Much fun was had, but I'll be honest I don't think any of us took any decent pictures!
Here's one as proof we went, with Craig following me across the moors:
But with views and roads like this, it was all about the driving!
So, the car was great over the christmas break, and I had LOTS of fun in it. It got down tiny lanes, over speed bumps, and ferried me around perfectly.
I even picked Victoria up in it from the train station, then she came home with me to Hampshire in it, the furthest shes ever been in it since it's 'track car' status was achieved! She hasn't packed her bags yet, so I can only assume it wasn't TOO bad
Looking forward to 2016 now, more trackdays, more car development, and apparently a wedding in the mix too
