Hi Everyone,
It appears that my S3 car battery in on the way out. It will not hold charge if I do not use the car for a few days.
It is the original battery from 2007 and so I have just checked the rating. On the case it says 70 Ah. I know not to go below that rating but what happens if I go higher.
Cheers,
Peter

Been doing a bit of research on a suitable battery for the S3. Popular online sites have a range of options, apparently all suitable.
The OE part number is 1JO 915 105 AE which appears to be a Varta part number. However the Varta battery has 77Ah instead of the 70Ah stamped on the case.
Anyone know the CCA value of the standard S3 battery as this appears to be variable as well.

Thanks for your thoughts.

8 year old battery, yes time for a change. Higher rated batteries are ok but no need to spend more than the recommended battery for your model. Stick to the known brands for long life, some give a 5 year guarantee.
My friends battery on his Toyota Avensis is now 16 years old and I really don't understand why it has lasted so long, luck I presume.

This is the battery I've been using for a year now: https://www.tayna.co.uk/E44-Varta-Silver-Car-Battery-577400078-P7726.html

Nothing bad to say about it - starts the car well, handles all my gadgets without issues.

The CCA is 780 A - check out the link, which lists all the details you'll need to know.

If I input the code on my original battery into Google, this is the battery that pops up on screen. Why will my part number produce a battery with a higher rating than the original?

Also, after reading my S3 handbook it indicates there might be issues with the electrics after replacing the battery.
Is this true or are there no issues really?

Thank you.

I had no issues with this battery and have bought it after reading positive things about it on this forum.

The higher capacity just means that the battery can provide power for longer and the cranking power is higher than stock, so starting the car on a cold morning will be easier.

I had no issues with it and would recommend it all day long.

When you replace the battery all you need to do is reprogramme the radio presets and reset the auto windows. Hold each window switch in turn in the down position until the relay clicks, then hold each window switch in turn in the up position until the relays clicks, takes about 4/5 seconds on each window and only the auto windows need to be done.

I went for one of these which is perfect - Varta Silver E44 Car Battery 77AH SIZE 096. It may not be at all relevant but on my 2006 S3 I suddenly had the battery discharging over a couple of days following a full charge and it turned out to be the BlueTooth that had gone up the spout and causing the problems, just something to bear in mind.

That's the one I linked to

Ah, didn't realise, but I'd give it a thumbs up, great cranking power and perfect fit ;-)

Yeah I got that one too.
Seemed to be the battery of choice on the forum when I bought it.
Does what it says on the tin!
