A4 B5 Cruise Control Retrofit Instructions with pictures

That should work.

I got no idea mate.

That's all I did with mine and it worked.

You don't get any symbol on the dash to say its working.
Just make sure you're doing over 20mph for it to work.

I will have to try this as despite the code and all wired up I couldnt get the barsteward to do anything!!

any way of testing these units or the loom?

You can check the continuity between the cables.

I think its a simple switch setup sending a positive signal in to the stalk and then each button press sends that down the cables.

I found a link where someone made their own CC with a series of switches on his dash but can't find it now.

Anyone know about a cruise control module? Apparently dry joints in it can cause issues? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401888253183115 seems to have been fitted to a wide range of Audi and VW vehicles

yeh that box is only used on early cars with cable throttle.

If you have DBW and the cruise info is appearing in the ECU, you dont have one of those boxes.

You can check the status of the switch and pedal inputs in VCDS and see from there whats going on. If its not working its usually either a faulty stalk (when they wear out the contacts start getting dicky and you can see the binary digits flickering on and off in VCDS) or, something silly like your driving along with your foot resting on the clutch pedal.

The only ones I've not properly checked on VCDS is 'set' and 'res' there is power as the on off switch changes values.
Assuming (when I get the chance) VCDS shows 'set' and 'res' both work, what next to try?

what i've found is that sometimes moving the slider to "set" causes the main "on" signal to momentarily drop out.

Other times when you release "set" the contact bounces enough to knock out the "on" signal again for a split second.

In either case, the cruise doesnt activate (well it does, but then almost instantly gets cancelled again!).

I'll see if one of my mates at Perth Audi can shed some light on it. They might have seen this issue before.
It's driving me daft, I might pull the white plug and check the wiring, one more time lol

I have read that a few people have issues getting their CC working

Spoke to my old mate at Wakefield Audi. (Aftersales manager)
He said the ECU sometimes takes a few goes to accept the code to get the CC working.
He was a technician at Perth when the A4's came out, we both had Audi 90's.
He also reckons Audi's computer might be able to overcome a stubborn ECU.

Hello, I have an Audi A4 B5 1999 2.5 Tdi. Can you help me because I am lost:

I received my regulator (ebay). I'm ****** off, here's what I have:
This is different from you, would you have any advice for me?
On the plate terminals there are marked: 56a, 71, R 49a, PR, P, L, PL, 30, 56b, 30 and 56.
I feel that the terminals of the black clips GRA match but there is no number marked on it ...

Mine has the lights switch attached to the indicator/cruise switch, the small loom has codes on the wires which plug into empty sockets on the White plug in the back of the ECU. It's awkward to do, you'll have to push the plug back down into the car through the bulkhead.
If you accidentally put a pin in the wrong hole, an iPhone SIM card remover pin is perfect to get them back out

Hello, the problem is that I dont have the good loom to plug it on the cruise switch. Furthermore, I dont know where I have to connect my wires (with Pin) on my cruise switch.

Excuse me for my english, I am french.

Ahh, I see now, your switch doesn't have the same socket as the loom plug needs.
I would send it back as its wrong, you could end up with a shed load of work to do to get it soldered together.
I can't get mine to work, it shows on VCDS when I switch it on, touch brake and clutch, the speed up and slow down shows, everything is working, the ECU shows as cruise being switched on but there is one setting that seems wrong, think it was the catch speed or something... Something to do with it setting the speed when you set it

Hello, is a cruise control from a gasoline a4 b5 (2.6 V6) is compatible on a a4 b5 diesel (2.5 V6 Tdi 150CV)

Aragorn, mine is driving me mad. Nearly everything seems right in VCDS but it just won't work... Only thing that looks wrong is (it's a while since I last tried) the catch speed?? (Something similar?) any ideas? It's switched on on the ECU

i've never tried to enable it on a DBW car, so i dont really know what could be going on.

Well i did enable it on my brothers car, and he couldnt get it to work either. Went out with the laptop and VCDS live logging and realised the clutch switch was open when he was driving along. Looked down and his foots resting on the pedal... After removing the offending foot, cruise worked fine.

you need to do the same thing, get someone to drive the car, and see what the various inputs are doing on VCDS. That way you can see if anythings out of place.

I might pop down to A4Audi at Clydebank one day if I can find the time.
One of my mates has VCDS, could try him again, we were driving around but I wasn't able to drive and watch what he was up to. Tried switch cleaner through the cruise switch too, some people seem to think 100 switch off and ons will clean the switches to make better contact

You can test the switch inputs with VCDS fairly easily statically IIRC - as said in the write-up
If you want to test it via VCDS,Select 01 Engine
Select 08 Measuring Blocks
Zone 4 should NOT read 255 (CC deactivated)
Zone 3 bits should all be '0' with CC off. On, Set, Resume, Brake on and Clutch on all show as bit '1'

It's been a while, but once in the correct measuring block, it was self explanatory. Switching the various options using the stalk and pedals changed the corresponding 1 to 0 (or vice versa) in the blocks
