Non-Res Exhaust

I wouldn't get milltek again long story short.

I bought it brand new, had so many cracks on it, had it welded few times (when it was a year or two old). ...never got an answer (maybe my tuner had something to do with it, but anyway now i'm using other garage).
Not something you want from an exhaust that costs that much. Back then there was no many options, now there's plenty. Also drone on motorway starts to get on your nervers.

Last time I was up amd I had a look at miltek and cobra welds and neither came anywhere near the quality of the bcs

Why ask for the best system then ignore 90% of the advice ?

Because price ££££

One downside of S3's getting cheaper there will be more people showing up on here that want everything for nothing :hi:

At the end of the day its his car and everyone has there own personal preference, for everyday driving the BCS may well be the best and suit a very wide audience but if all you want is performance and noise there is nothing wrong with miltek or cobra.
Especially when you get a full turbo back system off ebay for £500... Hahah

Milltek sounds good from outside and on wot. It's the quality and drone at motorway speeds inside the cabine that are issues with it..

I think it's a little unfair to say that as the S3 is getting cheaper the type of person who buys them is a bit stingier with his money. People have more then just there car to pay for.

These cars are money pits as they are. I've spent 2.5k purely in Maintenence and repairs this year.

I would say I've been quite lucky and I'm financially pretty sound and spend money like water. But I don't think I can justify the cost.

Tell me about it, I've got an s3 to run on a daily basis and a house that eats up £1100 a month.

Having a milltek that could possibly require removing every few months, and with today's garage labour prices, having to have it welded was out of the question.

It's the same with all performance cars, they become cheap very quickly, as a result more people buy them. Unfortunately, running costs and modifications don't get cheaper.

It's where we're all different, I'd rather pile money into a quality item up front that you then don't have to touch for the rest of the time it's on there than to have something that's flawed and a well know flaw.

Looking at various posts, speaking with various individuals and visiting a number of establishments there does not seem to a lot of difference in issues owners are having. I visited EMP during the week which was after speaking to a driver who had a custom made one for his A45 AMG but he's had a few issues with it with cracks and welds. EMP are very good so what's the difference? I am an occasional / weekend user therefore if there any issues at least the exhaust is covered. If you look at my original post, I haven't said that I wasn't buying a Milltek but realising the sentiment towards them and since posting there have been mixed opinions and posts from drivers and fitters alike.

This has nothing to do with price. Having purchased my S3 from new, what makes you think I am buying on the cheap?

Perhaps you'll want to read the entire thread before responding, I clearly stated that I was not interested in the BCS but that did not stop companies sniffing around and PM'ing me.

Don't worry I'll be in an RS3 8V by then

My sentiments entirely and mutually agree. Thank you and well put.

Of course it will be an 8v it's the only rs 3 they make

Why are labour prices a concern of mine? Given Milltek provide a life time guarantee for defects as I am the original owner surely I am in the £ seat and financially savvy one here.

BCS are excellent systems which sound and fit very well.
Milltek sound good also but sometimes don't fit as well, the welds cracking etc was an early problem on downpipes which I'd imagine was solved a long time ago.
Motorway drone on non res systems can annoy but Milltek also do systems with active exhaust valves too.
I've had several BCS systems on previous cars and been very happy with system and service.
I had Milltek and bcs on my last S3 although the Milltek didn't fit that great.
I now have an RS3 which bcs don't make a system for so I now have a Milltek on it which sounds great and fits great.
Am I worried about any problem with welds cracking? No!
One thing about Milltek is their guarantee is excellent with no quibble.
Enjoy your purchase mate

Thank you Marshy. Most of the forums users (besides a couple of them) have provided the most honest, +ve constructive feedback I have got in this thread,

While I am here would you care to educate smirky on the number of RS3 derivatives?

A lot of issues with Milltek are due to owners who try and fit them on their drive! I've had over 5 systems from them over the years and not had any problems. Yes, they may not look at shiny as BCS (and I'm not knocking BCS at all), it's just BCS are prohibitively expensive and they don't offer a cat-back only solution.

If I was the OP, I would get a Milltek system and put the rest towards and remap and a set of ARB's.

How are you finding it so far? I know it's only been a couple days but I'll be buying one and can't decide if I want non-res or res.

For reference I have/had a Civic Type R with a non silenced Piper cat back and that was pretty anti-social but made me LOL.

I've only managed to drive it 35 odd miles since having it done - 30 of those gingerly on the return home as I had to drive precariously because the standard exhaust was put into the boot. I suspect it will bed in as time goes by but so far I am very pleased with the resonance. I have been told the Res system is not far off the noise to the standard system. Your call buddy but I would say do it. From my experience (and similar to what others have said) trying to listen on YouTube, especially when at standstill, does not do the sound any justice. You have to listen to it in person preferably driven under load - it sounds great. Not quite (or nowhere near) the noise an rs3 8v makes and not sure what an rs3 8p sounds like but mine does sound very nice

Has anybody had experience/got a Cobra or Blueflame..?

I've had a Miltek and Piper system in the past and thought both of them where good, However I am a little put off by the stories of the Miltek's on our S3's so I'm possibly thinking of trying something different....I would love a BCS but I cant realistically afford one!!

EDIT - It appears Blueflame are no longer trading..? Can anyone confirm this..?

What do you think of it..?

Which one you got, Full system, De-Cat/Cat, Non res or res..?

Pretty much perfect for what i want, wouldnt say its overly loud.
Ive got the full turbo back decat/non res
