Hi guys havin a bit of an issue with wheelspin..
Got a 10 plate s3 stage 1 apr with 321hp. Car has 4 almost new p zero Rosso tyres. In the wet even in a straight line 2nd 3rd and 4th gear she just starts wheel spinning pretty bad. Seems as if all the power is at front wheels and rear power aint kicking in fast enough.. Anyone else have same issue? Poor tyres?
Cheers

It is possible there is an issue with the Haldex and you are running with limited rear drive. But these tyres don't get good reviews on the tyre review site. Many of the reviews by people highlight issues with wet traction and wet handling.

This time of the year is when summer tyres suffer with grip due to the cold wet conditions.

Something not right there mate. Get it scanned with vcds to see if you have any fault codes. Haldex pump is a common failure I believe
FYI my apr 2+ puts the power down no problem in the wet

I was just questioning the tyres although not sure. Car only got mapped bout 2 months ago and tyres fitted About 1 month ago. At first even in the wet traction was fine have only really noticed big problem in past week or so. Surely if haldex had issue it would show up a fault and send TC nuts? Used to have 370hp evo and I never really mattered what conditions or tyres it just gripped and went..

Thinking that ju just doesn't seem right... Would any garage be able to scan it?

It wouldn't show any faults, only a lack of traction, and the switch to 2wd only.
My mate ran his A3 3.2 with a faulty Haldex for 12 months with no outward signs apart from wheel spin. It did always carry a fault code though.
If they have the software to scan it, then yes any garage can check. Alternatively you can see if there are any members local to you with vcds

Nice one m8 ill get on the case tomorrow. Is it an expensive fix?

Depends it could just need a haldex oil change which isn't expensive. If it's pump then a few hundred quid

Hmm only had the car 2 months has full Audi service hist and oil was done around 5k ago.. Worth just sticking it into Audi?' Or is that jst askin to be shafted?

I've never known a main dealer to be overly helpful so it wouldn't be my first port of call.
I'd get it scanned by a member. Where are you?

This is true m8.. Jst outside Glasgow.. Jst spoke to my m8 there he reckons he might be able to get vcds.. The more I think about there is defo an issue as only a few weeks ago I was planting it in 1st And 2nd with only minimum spin in pissin rain..

Can't say mine ever wheel spins when flooring it hard in the dry or wet. At Stage 1 it just wont have the torque to break traction unless it's deep standing water.

My mate cant get vcds. Where's the best place around glasgow area? Or any members near so I can at least see what the problem is?

Did you get this sorted? My 2009 TTS S1 Apr just started doing it. Feels/sounds like the front wheels are 'skipping'. It's due a service in 1000 miles (96k).

If your traction control light stays on, then you have an issue with the Haldex Controller.
This happened to me and it was £150 to have it fixed, which was bargain considering they are around £600-800 to replace.

If there isn't a traction control light on, it probably needs and oil and filter change before the pump packs in. If you are unlucky then the pump may already be dead, but the oil and filter change would be the easiest and cheapest place to start.

Ahh ok. The light flickers I think. The Haldex oil and filter was last done at 52k miles in 2014. It had a period of doing **** all miles inbetween then and when I bought it.

I'm in the process of booking its service in - so at least I am prepared for it! Hopefully it's just gunked up, but perhaps the step change indicates that it's worse...

Thanks

4 yrs/40k miles is about right for changing Haldex oil and filter, so your just about bang on time for the service.
The odd thing is, main dealers don’t recognise the Haldex filter as a service item so they’ll tell you it doesn’t exist :wtf:
Find a recommended Audi specialist up your way, they should be aware of the filter and change it for you.

Chaps,

Thanks. I found a nice little VAG specialist near me that has great reviews, family business. I will see what their VCDS says about Haldex when it goes in for service anyway.

Should change my picture to represent my latest car! I miss the S3 though.

Definitely get the filter changed and not just the oil.

Thanks all. Found a local VAG indy. Highly rated. Do these prices seem about right? Is there a section on here where you can compare?

Oil & Inspection Service - £150 (including VCDS to see if there's anything else affecting the wheelspin)
Cambelt & Water Pump - £400
S-tronic Oil/Filter - £210
Haldex - £90
Brake Fluid Service - £50

I think my cambelt has another year before it hits 50k and 5 years.

I serviced the Haldex with new oil+filter at 46k miles.
At 25k miles the oil was changed at Audi.
This is how bad it looked:

Hmm, wow! So maybe it's just proper gunked up. I don't think it's ****** - there's no error code I can see on my baby diag system. Nothing on the dash either. Thanks!
