Picked up new ride this afternoon and noticed it doesn't have elec folding mirrors! What's the point of calling it a special edition, just because it's got b&o inside!
I was wondering whether there is a sticky or thread where someone has fitted elec folding mirrors and programmed with Ross tech which I also own as I have not done this kind of modification before and need a little guidance.
Many thanks

There are many other goodies your special edition doesn't have that it could, what makes you think it would automatically have folding mirrors ?
It has a few extra bits over what an S line might have.
The parts are not cheap to refit folding mirrors even with second hand parts you are probably looking at £500 plus.
This gives you an idea of what you need to do,

I've always owned vw skoda and seats and most of them had folding mirrors and were under £6k cars. I thought my a4 would of had them as standard after spending over £14k to buy it
I really want to fit them so any info would be great thanks for sharing the link il check it out.

On the link you sent what's the difference with htd, mem, dim lists?

All mirrors will be heated but some have dim dip glass the same as the interior mirror which will stop dazzle from headlights behind . The memory function allows the mirror to move to a pre set position for different drivers.
These extra functions will require possibly different controllers and more complexity if you haven't already got them.

I have dim and heated,
If I get some used mirrors which I have seen and for example they don't have the dim dip would it be easy to swap my parts to the motorised chassis?

I have folding as did my previous SEAT. How often did I use them.....about 5% of the time.
When I do fold them I then realise I can't see behind to open the door safely (potentially into oncoming traffic), so they only tend to get done if parked in a tight spot.
Nothing that can't be done in 5 seconds manually though.

The SEAT had an advantage as it would fold them from the keyfob (long lock press). But the Audi doesn't seem to do this and they only fold via the knob on the door.

It's an Audi, first you buy the car then everything else is an optional extra. Just be greatfull that you have 4 wheels.

As you move 'up' the VAG family you pay more and get less. I was disappointed that my old S3 had a lot of little things missing that had been standard on my golf GTI.

I only want them to fold when locking the car when the Mrs drops the little man off at school. The car gets parked on the side of the road and I don't want the mirror getting knocked off as some parts of it are a bit tight.

My wife had a 1.6 TDI copa Leon 2012 which had fold in mirrors and the New FR 184TDI does also.
Hold lock down and they fold in.
Pound for pound the Leon has better spec then my S4.

@Demo8dan, it's a pretty expensive retrofit, as others have said. But if you really want them, have a chat with forum member @NHN. He's the retro-fit king and all-round good guy.

I have folding and auto dipping, mine fold when locking the car. I can fold them from the mirror knob by turning to 12 o'clock but there is a setting in the MMI that sets them to fold when locking and unfold on start-up.

They work great, as does the auto dimming feature.

When you say auto dipping is this the dimming your referring to or a mechanical movement of the mirror?
I only want them to fold when locking car. I'm thinking of just leaving the knob on the door control and just install the folding mirrors and reprogram, then set mmi to fold when locking. I'm pretty sure not changing the knob won't have an effect on the system installing it in this manor?

Ignore my 12 o'clock comment, I meant 6 o'clock.

Mirror settings and function:

1. Knob at 6 o'clock will manually fold mirrors in (i.e. for parking etc.) under 10 mph and will automatically unfold over 10 mph.
2. Turning mirror knob to left hand mirror and putting car in reverse will dip mirror to rear wheel for kerb view of rear wheel, with comfort key function you can adjust that default location to suit driver and it will be saved to the key otherwise default location only.
3. Dimming rear view mirror and both wing mirrors is done by sensor in internal rear view mirror which blackens all three mirrors.
4. If Mirror knob is not in 12 o'clock position (heating icon) then the mirrors will not heat up when rear window de-mister is activated.
5. Auto folding mirror settings can be set in MMI to allow mirrors to auto fold when locked and auto unfolded when car is started. It doesn't matter which position the mirror knob is in for this auto function to work.

Hope this calrifies things @Demo8dan

Hi thanks for the info dude
You mentioned about the dip mirror when on left does this do the same if right is selected?
Also how would I know if I have comfort key or what is this function?
I have the internal auto dimming mirror does that mean the sides dim as well?
Thanks again

No, only works on kerb side of vehicle. Where are you, if in UK its left.
Also how would I know if I have comfort key or what is this function?
The easiest way to know this is a start/stop button and key-less entry. A very good feature, wouldn't have a car without it. Remembers all setting sbetween key owners, even better when acompanied with memroy seats, automatically unlocks car and sets seat location when you grab the door handle. Loads of other stuff like AC settings, audi settings, mirror locations etc. BMW is better slightly but its very good on Audi.

Not necessarily, you could've spec'd auto dimming rear view mirror or rear and side mirrors when new, all 3 are very good but the review internal one is a minimum requirement in my opinion, not standard though, part of the comfort pack I believe.

Yes I'm in the Uk il try the mirror out tomorrow.
I definitely don't have the comfort setup and sounds brilliant from your explanation and will definitely look into this for the next car!

How's an easy way to identify the outer mirrors being the dimming type? Will they have the same blue'ish tinge like the internal one?
Thanks again and great info you've shared

I have one other question, after the first day of owning the car the headlight went I took it back to the Audi dealer the swapped the bulb and now it is slightly whiter than the bluey coloured original, I went back in and mentioned that they have put a different temperature lamp in there and his reply was, the bulbs age and as they do the colour slightly changes..? Is this true or bs?

I did kind of hint that but he said on this occasion as it cost £150 we done it in their favour.

My left mirror doesn't dip down when put in reverse, when I order the electric closing mirrors and order dipping ones surely I can program this feature at the same time no?

Never understood why you would want to fold mirrors in on a tight Road? Just gives some idiot driver a chance to get even closer to the side of your car! Think I would prefer a replacement non folding standard mirror than a nice scrape down the side of the car!
