Just trying to finalise the spec on my A3 S Line Saloon, can anyone advise me if the Supersports seats are worth having.

This car will be a company car where I will do 20,000 - 30,0000 per year so I want comfort for sure.

Cheers

I love the SS seats and I really think it makes the car look like it's in the next level of amazingness! can't really comment on comfort cos I came from a Subaru and I never do more than 30 miles in one sitting.

I am 6ft 6" tall and they are the first thing I spec'd on mine, not that I have a problem with standard seats. They are superb, both in looks and comfort. Can't fault them.

personally i don't think they offer a huge amount more support than the standard seats (still very comfortable), i love mine but i mainly specked them because of looks and any extra support they do give is a bonus! its all personal preference in my opinion.

I have them and to be honest I am happy with them, they are truly comfortable and provide plenty of support. That said, I believe the only thing they offer over the standard seats is that they look a lot better. Sitting in them they feel much the same as the standard seats and don't particularly feel like you get any more support. One definite downside to the super sports is that you lose the ability to spec electronic functionality or any memory features, the super sports are totally manual when it comes to adjusting them, except for the electric lumbar support. So in reality they aren't really worth the 700 quid (or however much they are) over the standard seats - unless you really appreciate a nicer looking seat.

I love mine, again chose more over the looks than comfort but have to say they are very comfortable. If there's not so much to budget id get them then you won't wish you hadn't.

Style over substance.
Depends what you want.

IMO Alcantara standard seats are the best option available.

Well that's what I was going for before I went for the super sports.

Some have made comment elsewhere the Super Sport seats are the same (in terms of build and comfort) as the standard seats but comparing the two when we were buying on near new demos over weeks of use, both myself and my wife found the Super Sport seats more comfortable on short and long drives. They may well have the same cushion and back build but the foam seems different and better on the SS Seats.

My only issue with them is the bolster creasing but that applies to both types and mostly due to the way you get into and out of the car.

They (SS seats) definitely look superb and better IMO compared to the standard seats and I actually dislike power seats so the decision was easy (plus they came with the local Performance Pack).

Not a fan of alcantara (looks and feel).

I am able to speak from experience of both sport and super sports seats. I had sports seats (full leather and electric) for about 6,000 miles and have now have super sports sports (which I wanted purely for looks) which I've had fitted for 2 weeks/1,000 miles.

I was under the impression as many people mentioned that both seat types had a similar shape and therefore would give identical comfort.
I disagree - I was happy with the sport seat but the super sports seat has more pronounced seat bolsters which are definitely more supportive and I do find them more comfortable also. Its not apparent looking at pictures back to back, but sitting in them (especially for extended periods) you can tell.

Totally agree with SJ and Warwick ... I personally find the super sport seats feel more padded and rge bolstering more supportive.

Its not by a big margin, but I could tell the difference.

They are expensive but they were an option that was high on my must have list.

When you throw the car around corners you'll be glad you got the supersport seats!

I think size and seat position/posture matter.

I love mine visually, having sat in standard seats for 400+ miles I have to say they are far more comfortable and would make me think twice if I was to be back at the options stage, definitely SSS's are stylish but I can't agree they're more comfortable or that they hug you like recaros.

I deliberately didn't get them as I didn't want it to be too claustrophobic in the back for my 4y/o and I like to have adjustable head rests. Bit of a different decision making process to others. Only disappointment are the velvety panels rather than being full leather but they still look like new and they're not mega obvious.

If you get standard seats the electric lumbar option is worth having tho ..... or put the cost of this towards the S/S seats which come with it then it makes them more affordable ;o)

Absolutely mate, it's important that your bonny lad can see Daddy's smiley face as he creams another Golf R at the lights!! ;)

I quite like the look of the SS seats but they do block out a lot from the back and overall they're not worth the premium for me.

Think the main difference is where it narrows just before the head rest probably helps you to see more across the car ....

Yep, the standard seats do block more. The short Windows and high waist on the s3 make it an unpleasant place for a child

.....bit dramatic?? You make the rear of an S3 sound like a prison cell !! lol

I don't think the kiddies view the world quite as cynically as us grown-ups mate ;)

Compared to the equivalent Golf R, the S3 back seat for a kid is terrible - definately a prison cell. The SB worse than the sedan.

My MKVI R was much more open, taller windows, better roofline, almost bus like.

I prefer the S3 sedan feeling but I'm the driver, and always will be.

If I had young kids and only one car, it wouldn't be the S3.

If you use the MMI screen for scale you could fit another in before hitting the headrest on the standard seat - there's no way you can do this on the S/S seat as you have the back rest blending into the head rest it's clearly blocking out more front to rear seat cross car vision for the likes of a child in the back.

S3/A3 is better than most other cars I see with kids in the back vision wise which are your Firstas, Corsas, etc and because it's a Sportback the C pillar is further rearward giving a decent sized fixed quarter glass too. Think of a 1 series BMW no other side window past the rear door.

what is that running across the roof lining of the top car?

is that some kind of light-bar for the display?

Pics are from a motor show so yes a light bar just for that purpose not some super ILP option from Audi ;o)
