I've had a search around the forum finding loads of mixed answers but...

I'm wondering if anyone can help me! I have coilovers fitted to my S3 and the xenon lights are just pointing straight down to the floor! I can't see a thing infront of me when there is no street lights, and using the full beam doesn't help much either that just goes to probably just lower of a position than the headlights should sit on low beam!!

Do I need to have it reset / adjust them through VCDS or do I have to adjust them myself with the adjuster screws or what?

Any help massively appreciated as its a ball ache with these dark nights and awful weather.

Just had it back from the garage I bought it from 2 week ago it's had a new clutch and flywheel as it was slipping when I bought it from them and I did ask them to sort the lights, but, out in the dark tonight clearly showed that they didn't.

Not sure how it passed the MOT and the garage I bought it from gave it a 12 month MOT, but it is a 100 mile away so hassle to take it back to them. Although I will be contacting them tomorrow!

Well that's my life story above anyways, I will share some photos of the new car when I get chance to get some decent ones!! Except from the above problems It's a pleasure to be a S3 owner I love the car.

Cheers,

Jamie.

I wonder if they were original equipment with the car from new, you have coil-overs, so it sounds like someone has been playing around with the car, if your in doubt I would get my money back or its off to judge rinder.

The car was originally with the xenons! The car came with a some receipts of work done to it I haven't been sold a bad car or anything if anything id like to credit the previous owners for looking after it and spending money on it! When the coilovers are fitted it sends the auto levellers loopy I believe I'm just not sure how to sort them hope that someone could shed some light for me! Other than that the car is a beauty, has the rare bucket seats in, looked after very well by previous owners and the aftermarket parts on it are decent and money has been spent.

I had the problem recently and it was the rear self levelling sensor that had seized and snapped, so had that replaced and works again. You can also manually adjust the height of the beam on the light unit itself easily.

If I adjust the beam level and set it right will it stay in this position or reset itself? Also I have read that you can bottom out the adjust or screw for the motor to give it no movement or something?

Cheers.

Well it depends if the rear sensor is broken at all? If it is broken you can temporary disconnect the plug that leads to it which will mean that it won't be able to self level so if you manually adjust it, it shouldn't move. I am not sure about the bottom out of the screw though.

If the mechanicals are all working you need to reset using vcds.

I got chance to get under the car and the metal part of the sensor was hanging free and the rubber or plastic part that's on the bottom bracket was by itself so I forced them back together and in the correct direction! The lights do level them selfs a tiny bit I think but I haven't got access to VCDS to reset them through it! I adjusted them using the screws and they were close to being wound as far anti clock wise as they could go and they sort of just sit right now, although it's not the perfect solution but it should do until I can get access to VCDS.

Well the metal shaft that is meant to be attached to the black plastic part is broken then, unless it is bonded together again it will probably break away from the shaft. However this probably means, (In the case of mine) that the ball joint is seized so the rear sensor assembly will need to be replaced. You will find the lights will move if you move that arm. See the image of my replacement sensor, it is all in 1 piece.

Yeah I got a good look at the sensor thanks mate! Clamped it all back together they move a bit now, will probably buy a new sensor soon enough but and get access to someone with VCDS. they are working decent enough for the short term!
