I want to gauge your opinion on this.

My car is now 5 months old, 4500 miles. As mentioned in another thread
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/poor-performance-s3-dipped-headlights.255457/ I

I feel my headlights are way too low and need them adjusted.

Also, I feel the Wheel Alignment is off, steering wheel to the left, had this with a brand new BMW before as the rear toe was out. Car isn't driving straight, especially compared to the brand new 308 work car?!

I phoned up the local dealer, checking my warranty first, which states these problems are covered upto 6250 miles or 6 months.

Service person I spoke to said that wheel alignment might not be covered by the warranty due to "the state of the British roads at the moment" and manufactures are not covering this as "I could have hit a pothole"

Unless they can prove damage (which there is none) surely they can't refuse this under warranty, as geometry can settle over time hence why its mentioned in the warranty? just seemed like a very negative attitude.

Why don't you go and get your headlights aligned (any mechanic really) problem solved?

As with the alignment, go and get it done for all the price of it.

Yeah, maybe its just me then. But the headlights need coded, its not just a case of adjusting the screw.

To be fair on the wheel alignment, I think they do have a valid point - why would you wait 5 months to report it, the warranty I would imagine would cover it if it was out when delivered. And the UK roads are pretty naff right now and with the icy roads starting, probably not long before we get more / larger potholes.

Feel for you OP.

I know that you'll know that you haven't whacked anything. The Mrs, anybody else? Probably best to just get it sorted.

Your lights, that's down to Audi, and I'm right behind you. How do they come out of the factory like that ***?
(I know you know V8, just saying :sly:)

I reported a slightly off-centre steering wheel within 48 hours and this was not covered under warranty due to british roads and the chance that I may have hit a kerb, pothole etc. The car drove perfectly straight but the steering wheel had to be at a very slight angle which is more noticeable due to the flat-bottomed steering wheel. I was told I need full alignment done to correct this (I thought they may have taken the steering wheel off and adjust it on the spline but was told this was not the way to do it...strange)

I didn't want alignment done as I probably would've ended up with a perfectly straight steering wheel with a car pulling to the left or right so I am yet to get this done.

As a goodwill gesture the dealer sent me a cheque for £117 to pay towards alignment which i will get done when I go in for tyres or my first service.

Re the lights, that's 100% covered and Audis problem not yours.

Maybe I've waited too long for the alignment, to be honest an Indy with a good hunter set up will probably do a better job anyway. Lights definite, the Mrs C1 has better range!

I'm the only one whos driven the car, and not hit anything, but Audi will have a valid argument about the British roads.

Thanks all for your opinions.

...some of the roads around Sydney (Aus) almost resemble goat tracks. I've already smashed my front right into a recessed "man hole cover" - you'd think when they resurface roads, they'd level man hole covers... no... they dont. So you end up with a 2-3" gap... when its raining, you can't see them, then at 60km/hr you smash into them (with 19" wheels) and say a few choice words following......

Update,

Went into Perth Audi today, lights adjusted, Amazing now, they must be factory set to the lowest setting..if you think your xenons are too low, they will be and go to the dealer.

Re the Wheel Alignment, rear wheels were off by a significant amount, adjusted by the local Wheel Alignment guy as Audi does not have the facilities at that dealership, agreed to pay half and well worth it. Apparently this should have been picked up at the PDI, but surely how many dealerships measure this at PDI??

The moral of the story, if something feels wrong about the car then it probably is, get it checked!

I adjusted my headlights the other day. As says somewhere on here, wee white screw/Allen key at the top of the light cluster. Makes some difference adjusting them ever so slightly.
Glad you got everything sorted. Enjoy your car.

Here's my lights. Not the best of pics but decent projection. This is with Philips White Vision.

Do it yourself, Si. I used an Allen Key to adjust the beam higher. White screw on top of your headlights. Extremely easy to see and adjust.
Park approx 25 yards away. Lights should be at wing mirror height. DIY time tomorrow.

Scotty,

Can you remember which way to raise and extend the beam, did you turn the white screw clockwise or anti-clockwise...?

Thank you

Sorry, can't remember. I did it when dark and turned it whatever way to puts the lights upwards against me garage door. I'm pretty sure it's clockwise.
