I am looking at the full front suspension set all the aluminum parts cost £124 so not a bad price, what is the difficulty in doing the change over, I know when I had the wheels aligned quite a while ago the garage could not loosen off one of the tie rods. The car is 2004 Avant 2.5tdi so I would assume that to fit all new bushes and arms would not do any harm, cheers from Colin
Any advice would be welcome

If you are looking to do all the suspension arms you will be looking at more like £400-£500 for a quality set, have a look for either Meley HD or Lemforder, All Geraman parts is a good place to start. It's not too bader job to take on if you have workshop facilities, it's not something I would do on the drive, the top pinch bolt will be an absolute pig to get out.

If you fit these Chinese EBay parts your A4 will be rattling like a box of spanners in under a year. It's not worth the effort given the labour and tracking costs afterwards. Fit genuine Meyle HD or Lemforder, nothing else.

thanks for the info, the parts I am looking at are from Germany although not Meley or lemforder, I think the best thing is have a look at mine and the condition and take it from there, cheers from Colin

there is a lot to say about ebay and of course the origine of parts, it is the old storey you get what you pay for, Thanks from Colin

There is absolutely no point In having a prestige ( although ageing) vehicle and putting inferior parts on it.

Only my opinion of course.

I totally agree with you, like to think I look after my car and putting inferior parts is not in my agenda, like said before Meley of Lemforder is what I would buy if any parts were needed, I have just purchased Quatum 5/30 synthetic oil for the car but I must admit I did buy some Castrol 5/40 synthetic oil because it was said that is the oil to use but that turned out to be incorrect so now have 12x1 litre bottles of Castrol synthetic oil I am stuck with. Cheers from Colin

I bought a full Meyle set 3 or 4 years ago and had a major battle with the tie rod ends in my garage. I ended up putting it all back together and took it took the guy who does the things I can't (a Rally driver and car builder). He had to take the full struts off the car and get them onto a bench to get the tie rod ends off. If memory serves me correctly he had to use a torch to cut them off. All in all it was 8 hours labour for a professional, so about £400 for the parts and £400 for the work.
Now that all said I just had to replace 2 of the drop links, which have worn after only 3 or 4 years. I had replaced them with OEM parts not long before I bought the full Meyle set so I still had the slightly used parts in my garage to fit. I don't do big miles and would have expected more than 3 or 4 years, but maybe that's about right? Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Winter here in Finland can be harsh and when there's no fluffy snow there can be layers of hard ice that result in quite a rough drive around town.
So that all said, if OEM is going to cost £1000 for a full set then Meyle of Lemforder for £400 ish (as the guys have already said) would be a good choice in my opinion. Buying from Germany doesn't guarantee they are German made parts so be careful. And expect anything from 4 to 8 hours fitting at your garage if you won't be doing it yourself. I'm fairly competent but there was no way those tie rod ends were coming off for me.

I know all about the tie rods as a while ago I took my Audi to a tracking specialist and even with heat coud not shift one of the rods, I would assume like you when it comes to renewal it is a matter of cutting the solid one off. Cheers from Colin
