Changing the URL didn't work for me. They all load, but all say my navigation system is up to date already, won't let me download the new maps!

How very strange. Mine is downloading as I write - and has been since this morning! In Devon fast broadband equates to 2.2MB so an 18GB file will take some time. Fibre here is something I have in my cereal.

Well done for finding this out, however I've changed the URL and tried all the map care options and they all show Service not available for me :(

I've got the RS3 this weekend and adding that to my-Audi, it gives me the option to update the maps for that but still can't access the s3 map update download. So it must b link somehow to the car.

Awesome work @wcyharry !!

Downloading now - running at about 30mbps (app says MB/s but it's actually Mb/s) even on my 100mbps line, Audi clearly need some better servers.

Never done one of these updates before and have heard it takes a while. Do I need to sit and watch it with the ignition on or will it run in the background if I lock the car etc?

It will run in the background and you can carry on using Nav and listen to music etc, it will auto resume if you switch engine off and return to it later.

Started me this morning on drive to work, but still going with I arrived!
With it still continue to update if ignition turned off?

Yes for a short while whilst the canbus system remains live for around 10-20 mins I reckon.

Goodness this is very painful getting it downloaded. My old mans 335d just updates itself. Mind you it does look like it's designed by a kid with Lego inside....

Can't get this to work for me. It either pops up a message that the service is unavailable or tries to download a .jnlp file?

The .jnlp file is what you want.

Make sure you have the latest version of Jave installed, double click the ,jnlp file then it will begin the map file download which you then copy to SD card.

You're a legend. It was being blocked on my Mac.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before.
The first update some months ago, I downloaded the complete package and it took an age to write to the cars HD. This time out of curiosity I only updated the GB maps this downloaded obviously much quicker and transfered to the car in a matter of minutes. Checking afterwards I was surprised to see that the maps for the rest of Europe were still there. I've used TOMTOM for many years and any map upgrade whipes the memory completely leaving you with just the map you updated.

No if you select just one country and then apply it to your sat nav then it just applies it to that country and leaves the rest in place and not updated. Why would you wish to delete the others anyway as I doubt you'd reclaim any more storage space...

Yet another phone call from Audi Exec Office on Friday - but just to say that Audi AG are "aware of the problem and are working on it". He did say that I am not the only person who has been in contact with Audi UK :astonished: He said I should expect a call from him when it is solved but he couldn't give a date. I did not enlighten him that wcyharry has found a workaround.
Thanks to him and Rob2k68 I now have a fully functioning 2016 map system. Way to go :grinning:

Interestingly, I've just tried this again and I get the option to download the maps now and downloading at the moment :grinning:

All good, but would still like to have it sorted by Audi so the option is available properly.

glad I found this thread and the solution worked for me. if you are one of those people like myself who has been warned about the insecurity of java and therefore hadnt installed it on your pc or removed it, you MUST have java installed for this process to work since audi uses java to facilitate the download to your pc. my personal home 135MB/s connection is getting a 23MB/s download speed with about 15 percent downloaded at the moment.

ended up getting about 28MB/s for the download. then it took a while to verify and transfer the file to the location I selected. then transferred to an SD card. took about 40 mins to transfer to the car once the update started. cool little indicator on the bottom left of the mmi screen. then success was indicated. this may all be trivial to Audi veterans but this is my first Audi so I am writing this for other new owners.

Somehow I think they need to hire some decent developers..An issue with an online system that customers use to access paid for services, being down this long, is pretty bad.

If a client of mine waited this long I would be desperately looking for a new job!

Finally got round to updating the car today - only took about 40 minutes :)

I just spoke with Audi UK about theeir A3 e-tron App and map update service. Regarding the latter, they advised that they have experienced problems changing servers and that the have escalated the matter to CS management.
I would have thought that the matter had been escalated well beyond CS management at this stage but every little push can only help :notworking:

When you log in to My.Audi does it show your car so that you have already set that up using your VIN number ?

The PIN number is required to activate connect services if you high the high MMI with connect option on your car. If so go to connect (globe icon I think) under the top level menu and input the pin number there. Sorry if not very specific I'm away from my car. I think there is a download link from the My.Audi page to the MMI and Connect manual.

Yes set it up with the vin number and it shows my car. Then the PIN number of the right with a red icon above it.

Yeah that's it - you need the PIN to effectively log your car onto the connect services. I take it you've got a SIM card inserted and a working data connection ? If you've no SIM card slot between your SD card slots then you don't have connect and have no need of the PIN.

Still doesn't show up in My Audi, but changing the URL now does offer me the option of downloading the update so I'll do that tonight.

no i have no sim slot, its just a little odd my audi was saying it couldn't down load it as the car was not connected, plus giving me a pin to put in car has a wireless lan.
