S4 exhaust round up and reviews

No drone at all at 2300-2500 rpm ?

Where do you live Danny ?

Not sure, start reviewing something else, intakes maybe.

I test and review computer software and hardware and I'm just starting a blog reviewing local food and customer service. I have been testing and reviewing for about seven years now.

Not much drone at all tbh. I bought this system from a guy on a different forum and looked at many other systems. Once I researched awe I noticed that they are really suited to s-tronic cars giving less drone. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne.

As far as i know if you have the sport diff you have to have the dynamic pack that then gives you the vaule exuast this is what i have been told as i said i was told this and when looked down the back baox you could see the vaule so i took it as true

Isn't that just a mechanical blow-by valve that naturally blows open as 'x' rpm, rather then a controlled valve via electronics or boost/actuator pressure.

Are we not trying too hard to eliminate drone.
Maybe it's my ears being sensitive (their very good at picking up diff/gearbox/bearing noise), but I could detect a slight drone in 7th on my old B8 S4 at 70-80mph motorway cruising.
It wasn't obtrusive but it was certainly a different note/resonance.

Personally for me as long as it makes a great sound on full throttle and not intrusive everywhere else you can't go wrong. Don't think you can get a system that eliminates drone bit the awe definitely keeps it as quiet as possible on the motorways!

I must say that I have never noticed any drone with the Milltek ValveSonic on mine

No sure you would get much drone on the valves system exhaust as it would switch to basically stock on the closed system.
You can get systems that are drone less, I have heard of two. I will be honest I have tested neither, one is a back box replacement one is a full exhaust. The full exhaust is a car I have been out in for a very short run but not given a good test.

This is a big reason I want a valued system I have 2 young kids bothe under 2 lol and the S4 is the family car.

Well like I said there are other options, I will bring you one on my next test fingers crossed. The valved systems are amazing but the prices are amazing too. That is going to put them out of reach for some so will lose them points.

Have you considered adding a helmholtz chamber? I was planning on trying it out when i get round to finishing my exhaust.

I previously had a 370z, and these were common in several aftermarket exhaust, with the sole purpose of reducing the common drone. Without looking back into it, the design seemed to be simple, yet very effective.

Fctaff, might get a good listen to the APR RSC this week. Fingers crossed. I would like to have a listen to the AWE touring system too Danny. Any chance you could swing by with it?

All hands on deck, like an F1 team. Would not have been able to do this testing if it were not for these guys at Forge Motors Cwmbran

Do not want to say just yet, I want to get some miles under its belt. I have a long run to do on Saturday so will be able to give some feedback then.
After trying all these exhausts I had pretty much come to conclusion I was happy with stock, just not sure a rip snorting sound suited the german-ness of the S4. Short term I liked them but putting it back stock was always a pleasure.

Could this be the one that changes my mind ?

I had this make on my previous outgoing Audi and loved it so I was happy to test this.

what I will say is the fitter said in his opinion, it's the best quality so far.

Scorpion exhaust

This is the latest exhaust and its stunning ! I had a scorpion on my last Audi and loved it, it was on there when I bought it so can't take the credit.

On to this one, amazing quality and light, I believe it's 7kg lighter then stock. Exit pipes are really lovely ( will get a photo when it stops raining, so June maybe lol )
This exhaust is considerably quieter then the others tested, do not confuse this with sounding weak. It sounds the part but retains the classy refined Audi-ness we all bought. Sounds good on tick over, down shifts are clear and sound good as is the fart. It really comes alive under hard driving but never loses composure, most importantly
No drone.... Yes you read it NO DRONE !

It sounds better today as its settled in more, I'm sure over the next few day it will get better still. In the car it's clear there is a sporty sound but as I said more refined, subtle almost. For me this is perfect, enough you know it's not stock but not boy racer or ricer. ( Had the garage drive it today as I have a wheel baring type noise ) as it drove away Outside the car sounds purposeful and more aggressive but not overboard. When you push on a little it wakes up then, the sound far more agressive. IMO scorpion got the balance of sporty and refined spot on, you can see a lot of R&D has gone into this. I think I'm going to enjoy having this one on test.

I will keep you filled in over the next week and give a final round up but this scorpion is a pleasure.

If anyone close to Newport would like to hear it, I'm more then happy to demo it and I'm in Yate late afternoon tomorrow.

I'm really happy with my Scorpion on an everyday usage car. I love the tone change as it gets stinking hot! I changed the tailpipes for slightly smaller diameter ones, as I thought the Scorpion ones were a bit too big, and didn't like the Scorpion branding on them.

Great result from Scorpion then. Your comments totally make sense. I did a similar thing 10 years ago on my Subaru with many exhaust swaps and settled on the TSL Group'N' manufactured by Scorpion. It makes it sound right, no drone on the motorway but perfect increase in volume when you push on and just about track day friendly. Still on the car 10 years later and still polishes up like new.

If I still had my S4 a Scorpion would be going on. But it's not really worth it on the 2.0TDi.

This sounds promising!

I, like yourself had an exhaust on for a very short time and had to have it removed and put back to standard due to the dreaded drone.

Is this scorpion your testing the cat back system or the half system?

Ryan

I will get a clip posted when I get one, but wet here at the mo. I'm out at a comedy gig now, when I get back I will put up an offer from scorpion.

This system is cat back, so from the down pipes on.

I'm back..

This is the offer from scorpion

Could you ask them if these figures were done with their original system,(louder/drone tendancies system) or the later drone-free system (with the three-way pass rear silencers)?

Fctaff, were there any fitting issues at all that you know of?

i asked for dyno results for the no drone so assume that is them,

It fits like a glove. The only issues is an Audi made one, top exhaust stud on the right hand bank is a real ball ache to get to and remove. Other then that it flys on. You will probs want to get a garage to fit it just because of that one nut, we raided every tool box trying to find just the right combination of bits. Even then it was three clicks per turn. I would invest in a C spanner if your going to try it yourself.
One the old exhaust was off it was just 20 mins fitting the new one, took longer getting the tails perfect then fitting the rest of the exhaust.

Passed the wife test at this point. You may be on a winner. What are the tips F? Black or stainless. Do their 90mm look correct in the S4 valance size wise?

I really want this exhaust!

I don't understand why everywhere sells the SAU044SYS for £1404 when scorpion say it retails at £1640?

So after the discount on the full rrp it comes in at £1248 so a real world saving of £156 which is not to be sniffed at!

I need to find myself a garage that will fit it for me now I think!
